I bought a holder from Joann's years ago, and it still works great! Use a coupon, and it is inexpensive! :)

The thread need to come off the TOP of the cone - therefore, yo need the stand that pulls the thread UP and then it can feel to the machine

Didn't know I could use the cones. I will do the coffee cup thing or a mason jar one. Sounds good to me.

Buy a quality thread holder because buying cone thread will save more then the thread holder will cost.

I bought a wooden towel bar rack from a garage sale for 50 cents, glued the ends on a 1x4x18" piece of board I had left from shelving, put a thin dowel rod in between and then I can string 3-4 thread cones on it horizontally at one time. It works like a dream, may not look too fancy, but sure solved the problem. It is better weighted than the individual spool holders that seem to move around on me. I often sew on my folding table so the vibration from the machine causes the stands to slide. The board doesn't move. I think I'll paint it so it matches my sewing decor one of these days, but it works fine in the meantime. I'd rather spend my money on fabric any day than on the accessories.

I use serger thread on my machine and the cones were too large for the spool spindle and I found that I put a regular spool of thread inside of the cone and that makes a nice thread adaptor. Works great too. Now my sister gave me 2 of the larger cones that are for long arms or some thing like commercial machines and I might be able to use those too if I put them in a cup or get a cone stand. Love my chepie thread adaptor, just a regular thread spool. Huggies, Fay
