I'm so glad I joined this blog. You are all so ingenious in finding ways to do things.

You all are so crafty when it comes to adapting to your needs but I need to point out that the spool of thread that someone was using in a picture just prior to this is serger thread and it was designed so that either 3 or 4 or 5 threads could be combined without alot of bulk. It is a thiner thread then regular thread and will break easier than the regular thread. A bunch of them are always polyester instead of 100% cottom.

If you use the cup/jar by the machine please beware of the thread path. Using something to keep the thread away from the flywheel or any place that the thread might get caught is a must.
My first one was a green bean can with a dowel taped to the outside with a paperclip glued to the top--worked great.

Because this is a thinner, less durable thread, I use it to edge my fabric before washing. Works great!

I use a wide mouth quart jar, just sit it on the back side of your machine. Works like a charm, won't turn over or roll away.

Hi, I had that same problem. I bought a stand from Connecting Threads.They have 2 kinds,one expensive[$39] and the other around $11.Has a heavy base. Just last Sat. I seen a cheaper one at Handcocks and I am waiting for a sale. It is not with a heavy base like the one from CT but I plan on putting rice or something heavy in the base and cover it for the weight. Or use the cup idea.I didn't have luck with that cause the thread was not high and would get tangled. Good luck.

I have a friend who uses a 2-liter coke bottle with the bottom cut out! Anyone else do that? I have the inexpensive one from Mary Jo's and it works fine.
