That was a mistake. For some reason, I thought the baby was due in July, but I got it wrong - it was mid-August (or maybe I told myself July so I wouldn't procrastinate - see how well that worked out?). She was born a couple of days ahead of schedule, and she's healthy.

So, how should I quilt this quilt? Is just outlining the blocks enough?

Actually the mistake was also mine. I didn't realize your original post was in May. :)
Are you hand or machine quilting it?

Manalto 08-17-2017 04:50 AM

You can't be serious, but I'll pretend you are. I'm quilting it by machine! Hand-quilted - you're hilarious!

So, does anyone have advice on how I should quilt this? Is just outlining the blocks enough, or will it be more durable if it's more closely quilted? I'd like to avoid free-motion quilting if possible, as I haven't done it in a while.

Nice. Gray and yellow seems very popular these days.

I love straight line quilting---edge to edge, vertical lines. One inch apart, leaves room for nice softness and drape. Looks great!

Ahhhhhh... an answer to my question. Thanks, Jeanne! I'm going to try it. And nice to "see" you again!

Veronica Louise was born this week, so the pressure is on to finish it because I'm going to go see the baby and her parents in a few days. (Don't judge me for my slow progress - I'm restoring a house, too!) The quilting and the binding still has to be done, and that is my question.

How would you quilt this? I'd like to avoid FMQ, if possible; it's been a long time since I've done it, I'm rusty and I don't have the luxury of time to rip it out if I botch my attempt.

The Bear Paw quilt came out gorgeous. Welcome baby Veronica! I agree with the straight line quilting if you are not up for the free motion. I am not big on outline quilting. It always seems to be just slightly off.

I didn't realize it was called "Bear Paw." Nice to have a name for it; thanks.

Good point on the need for accuracy with outlining. I'd be sure to have a meltdown over that.

Why do you want to make a white quilt for a baby? Not sure those Gerber foods will all wash out and a white quilt with pea stains is not that great. :) (Just thinking of my little grand-nephew and some of the messes he tends to make.)
