I like your teal and coral block! Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt. I will also add that I think your idea of a white/cream or white/light gray 2 color neutral quilt would be a great idea for a baby quilt!!

Love the block!

I like the subtlety of white and cream (or gray) too but this time around I'm glad I went for the stronger colors because (after I had already bought the fabric) the parents-to-be requested a "pop" of color. In a dark olive room, this combination is going to pop. For my next project, I'd like to use understated colors. Thanks for the link to the Southern Fabric Blog, HFG. It's more appropriate than you realize. I know this question has probably been asked a gazillion times but, aside from not quilting too closely or tightly, how do you get good drape? I'm using 100% cotton batting (Fairfield 'Toasty Cotton'). ETA: Is it me or are HSTs finicky? This is most definitely not a work of precision. |

Here's the top, without borders. Color is distorted because photo was taken at dusk. It's sloppy, but one of the nice things about babies is their complaining lacks details!

It looks great! The block makes an interesting design with lots of movement---perfect for a baby quilt.

I am late to the party but have made this a couple of times in these colors. The Mom's LOVED it.

Here's the quilt I made:
Veronica Louise was born this week, so the pressure is on to finish it because I'm going to go see the baby and her parents in a few days. (Don't judge me for my slow progress - I'm restoring a house, too!) The quilting and the binding still has to be done, and that is my question. How would you quilt this? I'd like to avoid FMQ, if possible; it's been a long time since I've done it, I'm rusty and I don't have the luxury of time to rip it out if I botch my attempt. |
Manalto I love your quilt!
When I first read your post I thought "how can they be due in July when it's August?" Need more coffee!! :D |
That was a mistake. For some reason, I thought the baby was due in July, but I got it wrong - it was mid-August (or maybe I told myself July so I wouldn't procrastinate - see how well that worked out?). She was born a couple of days ahead of schedule, and she's healthy.
So, how should I quilt this quilt? Is a simple grid - just outlining the blocks - enough? |
