as in making clothes and whatnot? I was in Walmart's Fabric dept today and got to looking at the pattern books. I actually bought 2! LOL
Hopefully I can find as wonderful a board as this one for sewing!
David

I love to sew but not for me. I used to and never really like what I made! But I loved making little clothes for my boys.
I also love making pillows and stuff like that :D

sewwhat85 02-18-2011 01:55 PM

i sew sew

irishrose 02-18-2011 01:58 PM

I sew far better than I quilt. I've made just about everything there is to make from wedding dresses to my son's suits, drapes to fire retardant racing suits, winter coats to bathing suits, etc. The only sewing I have to currently is a new robe for me.

deema 02-18-2011 01:59 PM

I make pj pants every now and again for my kids...that's about it.

CarrieAnne 02-18-2011 01:59 PM

I used to love sewing for my kids. I have a hard time fitting myself though.

B. Louise 02-18-2011 02:01 PM

I make most of my own shirts--from fun cotton quilt fabrics.

Tropical 02-18-2011 02:05 PM

I used to make clothes. Now I make dolls, doll clothes and stuffed animals. I love quilting now so I do all of them. I really don't like making clothes for little dolls 18" and under so I create my own patterns and make the clothes as a part of the doll. I hope you can find a sew sew board that is as great as this one is for quilting. :)

Marye 02-18-2011 02:11 PM

I sew sew, use to make all my clothes, In high school won state for a three piece wool suit, made clothes for the public.

NancyG 02-18-2011 02:11 PM

I like to sew - mostly for the grandkids.

CloverPatch 02-18-2011 02:14 PM

Started off making clothes, when I was 13. I am far better at clothes and such than I am at quilts, I can tell you that much!
I have some pink eyelet, I bought that I am supposed to make my girls a dress out of, havn't decided on a pattern yet....

deranged_damsel 02-18-2011 02:17 PM

I SEW!!!, if it fits under the pressure foot and the needle goes through it, then I sew it :D :D :D

patterns at Walmart are a GREAT price! they dont fit everyone, so if you get addicted, Joannes has butterick and simplicity on sale for a buck pretty often.

have fun!

Re: sewing clothes - I can, I have, I don't much anymore. As a 4-H member I made all my own clothes in high school. My junior year I won the senior division of the County 4-H Dress Revue and competed at the Calif State 4-H Dress Revue. Didn't win but had lots of fun!

Re: home interior decor - I can, I have, I still do. Again - it all started in 4-H. Have made enough window treatments, valances, cornice boxes, drapes, bed spreads, pillows, table runners & placemats, etc to fill my quota for a lifetime lol.

Now I am in a new season of sewing & doing nothing but quilting. Well...except for the call I just got from my step-daughter asking me to shorten & hem a pair of pants for her...

nanna-up-north 02-18-2011 02:25 PM

I also sew, sew. I used to take my daughter shopping, sketch the clothes she liked and then go to the fabric store to make the items for her. She was tall and skinny and back then you couldn't buy pants that were long enough when they fit her waist.... or would stay up on her waist when they were long enough. Now I get to sew for my great granddaughter and I still love doing it.

ibequilting1 02-18-2011 02:27 PM

I don't think putting a hem in jeans for my grandson counts as sewing. I made layetts for my children and grandchildren but that was a long time ago.My husband played in a band and I made western shirts for the band but that was all. I have never been able to fit myself. Now it is just quilting.

4-H??

sharoney 02-18-2011 02:29 PM

I used to sew sew all the time. Made all of mine and my daughter's clothes, and ever sewed for other people. Also made drapes, bedspreads, pillows, etc. Now the thought of it makes me cringe. All I wanna do is QUILT!

mimiknoxtaylor 02-18-2011 02:32 PM

I used to sew everything but not so much anymore. Just finished some overalls for the youngest grandson but my daughters-in-law are high maintance and if I make the granddaughters dresses I never see them wear them so I seldom bother. My daughter only has boys but I don't enjoy making boys clothes so much

Maggiemay 02-18-2011 02:34 PM

I still do some sewing, but not as much as when my kids were little. That is how I started out & I still love it!

S D G 02-18-2011 02:51 PM

I cas sew anything I want. I have made suits, dresses, blouses, slacks and even wedding dressed. Prefer to quilt though.

lilithcat 02-18-2011 03:03 PM

I sew. That's what I started with, at first on clothes for my kids when they were babies. I made custom jeans for my boys that were the envy of their friends when the uber-wide legs were first popular. I make most of my own dress clothes. It's cheaper to buy a lot of things now than to make it though.

I've done drapes, gowns, upholstery, custom gun holsters, if it can be sewn chances are I've at least tried. I have several garments and quilts going at any given time. I think it's my ADD! :)

Holice 02-18-2011 03:16 PM

i make curtains, draperies and cover cushions.
Also make the "Little Dresses and Shorts" for Africa and Hati. Is this sewing?

suezquilts 02-18-2011 03:20 PM

I tried to sew sew yesterday, boxers for my SIL. He is 6'8", he is not heavy just a large waist. Anyway. I read I did felled seams, I did this and that, put the elastic in, when I notice I have one of those important pieces up side down.
I threw it away!

CindyBee 02-18-2011 03:32 PM

I sew clothing and also home dec as well as quilt. With clothing patterns you must also be able to "fit" or make pattern adjustments. Rarely will a pattern fit the average individual right out of the envelope. There is a whole new learning curve for you, LOL. I recommend http://sewing.patternreview.com/
as a resource for learning to sew clothing.

raptureready 02-18-2011 03:34 PM

I sew sew---most of my clothes and a lot of dd's. Most recently I made myself two new flannel nightgowns and LOVE them.

brenda21 02-18-2011 03:38 PM

i used to...that's how i learned...never liked what I made though LOL

Aunt Retta 02-18-2011 03:52 PM

Sewing has been a part of my life forever. My mother for some reason would not buy me many clothes. I remember school year after school year in elementary and Junior highhaving one school outfit to wear five days a week, a sunday dress with a slip and somethingto where at home. I finally rebelled against that and when I got a job I bought fabric and made my own clothes. This was even before High School. I think I am still rebelling against that. I also sew flannel Pj's for most of my large family at christmas including brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, in laws. I love making doll clothes. I make them for 4.5 inch dollls.

luvnquilt 02-18-2011 04:00 PM

I also sew, started in gradeschool with 4-H, made a lot of clothes, won some ribbons. In Highschool, I made my prom dress. A few years later I took a job doing alterations in a bridal shop. Then went about 15 years just borrowing my Mom's machine now and then. Christmas 09, I insisted on getting a sewing machine for my present so I could sew easy clothes for my kids. then last year I picked up quilting too :)

LAB55 02-18-2011 04:27 PM

I sew sew, started when I was 9 helping my mom, than made my younger sister's clothes, than my kids & other peoples.
I still do some here there for other people, but I prefer to do quilts now.

Enchanted Quilter 02-18-2011 04:27 PM

I love to sew especially different types of Valance and window covers. Just about anything I go to Hancock's when they have patterns on sale usually pick up 5-10 @ 99 - 1.99 a piece.

Flying_V_Goddess 02-18-2011 04:30 PM

Haven't done any "sewing sewing" in quite a while. Last time I did anything major was a couple years ago when I made Halloween costumes for my God son and I. I went as Morgan Lander of Kittie (God, the pleather was a nightmare) and he went as Link from Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (only thing I didn't actually make from scratch was his long sleeved undershirt, which even then I hand dyed because I couldn't find one in a light green).

GwynR 02-18-2011 04:52 PM

I used to sew all my daughters clothes. Little girls dresses are such fun. The boys had superman everything at one point. Capes to curtains! Now they are all teens and homemade is no good, except for the occasional scarf and pillowcase. I do have a very nice t-shirt pattern that looks very dressy if you use a beautiful fabric that drapes well. I make those for myself now for work. What patterns did you buy?

dphelps 02-18-2011 06:00 PM

I also sew sew. Have been sewing since I was 12. My granddaughter will soon be 12 and we have talked about me teaching her for the longest time. Maybe this year.

I love to make sun dresses and fancy dresses for my daughter. She is 7 1/2 and very girly. She loves ruffles and bows. I also make matching dresses for her baby doll, little Clara who looks exactly like her (big Clara).

sewingsuz 02-18-2011 06:57 PM

David, I have sewed for over 55yrs and lots more sewing than quilting so if I can help just ask. One time I even made a boat cover. It took up the whole room. Suzanne

fab 02-18-2011 07:17 PM

I sew sew. I use to make pants, skirts and jackets for me and my daughter, however, after discovering quilting, I sew very seldom. Have two pairs of pants cut out, but that,s it.

PATTIESPEARL 02-19-2011 03:20 AM

I am a much better seamstress than a quilter. I have made a lot of really beautiful things in the past, but would rather quilt now.

Lv2sew2011 02-19-2011 03:26 AM

I use to make my Children Clothes, and made a few items for myself. When the cabage patch dolls first came out and sold out before Christmas well I made them and made good money, even my mom and dad both ended up helping me cause I couldnt keep up on my own. LOL
