An interesting mistake. What would you call it?

Last night I was tired and using EQ7 to design a Storm at Sea quilt for my son. I liked the end result pretty well, saved it, and went to bed. This morning when I was composing an email to him to confirm the design I realized it was not at all what I was attempting to do but was interesting. I had to go back and redo it to get it right. What would you call the mistake? Ann in TN

I like the wrong one, it gives it even more movement :)

Izy 03-02-2012 02:08 PM

'Seeing double Storm at sea' !!! I LIKE your version better, far more interesting visually, go for it :)

SandyinZ4 03-02-2012 02:10 PM

I like your mistake better too. I would call it Wavy Waves or Turbulent Ocean. Really cool looking!

quilter2theend 03-02-2012 02:10 PM

I like the wrong one better, looks more like a storm!

QM 03-02-2012 02:15 PM

I have seen this variant before, called something like double storm. The term for this sort of event is serendipity. It is very good that you are open to seeing the possibilities when you make such a wonderful "mistake".

ube quilting 03-02-2012 02:22 PM

The second is very traditional and the first is really unusual and tricks the eye. It has the illusion of a double exposure. There is a greater amount of motion in the first.

auntpiggylpn 03-02-2012 02:24 PM

Not a mistake but a variation! I like how it appears to be moving, like the waves on the water!

What she said :)

dunster 03-02-2012 02:31 PM

Very interesting, and beautiful. I hope you make it in fabric. Here's a near-duplicate that someone made - scroll way down to see it -

Linnie 03-02-2012 02:38 PM

Your "wrong" version is better. It give more wave action.

greensleeves 03-02-2012 02:40 PM

Riptide or Tidal Wave. Like the variation--lot of work.

Sunnye 03-02-2012 02:51 PM

I like the "wrong one" also. I don't think I would rip that out!

Elaine433 03-02-2012 02:52 PM

I like the first one better. Maybe it's not a mistake. Maybe you are suppose to make the first one.

aronel 03-02-2012 02:53 PM

I would call the mistake a happy accident, I love it!!

quiltsRfun 03-02-2012 03:00 PM

I like the mistake. Name it after your son. Maybe _____'s Stormy Sea or something like that.

:)

jlwheart 03-02-2012 03:20 PM

I agree with folks, your version (1st one)is way more interesting. I hope you'll celebrate your unique design and make it. Love to see it when you're done.

tjradj 03-02-2012 03:20 PM

I like the first one too. What about "Perfect Storm" ?

virtualbernie 03-02-2012 03:22 PM

Count me in for liking the first one too!

sewbeadit 03-02-2012 03:38 PM

How about Many Storms.

QuiltnNan 03-02-2012 04:08 PM

i'd call it beautiful. maybe name it 'very stormy sea'

Buckeye Rose 03-02-2012 04:33 PM

I like the wrong one too.....can't wait to see the finished version!

sewingsuz 03-02-2012 04:36 PM

I pick the wrong one also. Its cool.

valleyquiltermo 03-02-2012 04:38 PM

I have to say I'm loving the mistake, WOW what movement it has, I was almost sea sick. It is lovely.

nativetexan 03-02-2012 04:42 PM

I love the first one. Looks more like waves. very good movement.

Tartan 03-02-2012 04:44 PM

I would call it harder! Just kidding! You could call it Sea Sick.:D

joyce888 03-02-2012 04:46 PM

I have to agree with the majority, your version is great!

KGoodhand 03-02-2012 05:07 PM

I love them both but that first one for some reason the name 'The Perfect Storm' came to mind!!

Christine George 03-02-2012 05:09 PM

I would call it "The Wow Error". It's beautiful.

Dolphyngyrl 03-02-2012 05:09 PM

I agree the wrong one is much more eye grabbing

CarrieC 03-02-2012 05:18 PM

TO borrow parts from others what about "Turbulent Storm At Sea"?
"Storms at Sea"?

NannaL 03-02-2012 05:18 PM

I like to First one, you could also call it "Cross Current".

Neither is right or wrong. They are simply two different versions of the same design. Google STORM AT SEA and you'll find both. Some like the double, I prefer the single. The yellow is interesting though. I've always seen the blocks in various shades of blue, which would be my preference, but the yellow is eyecatchine.

thus the name STORM AT SEA!

GrannieAnnie 03-02-2012 05:26 PM

Is there a reason to change STORM AT SEA'S name? Both patterns have long been called STORM AT SEA.

davis2se 03-02-2012 05:30 PM

Personally I would call the "wrong" one way, way cooler - but most likely way, way more work too. Go with what works for you.

Whigrose 03-02-2012 05:35 PM

ncredbird,
I would call it creative karma. I actually prefer the 'mistake'. After all, every vessel needs to dock sometime- and that is what the green says to me. I'm with woody, definately more movement going on in the first one.

Good luck and have fun.

best,
d
btw- I got a good chuckle out of your siggie line.

Wow, I don't think it's a mistake, it's a new design  - I love the title suggestions of Cross Current and Rip Tide - they both connotate strong water movement, which your design certainly contains. If you decide to make it, please be sure to share it with us!

Handcraftsbyjen 03-02-2012 08:31 PM

I like your wrong one.

auniqueview 03-02-2012 09:00 PM

I like the "mistake" better. I would call it Double Down.
