An interesting mistake. What would you call it?
2 Attachment(s)
Last night I was tired and using EQ7 to design a Storm at Sea quilt for my son. I liked the end result pretty well, saved it, and went to bed. This morning when I was composing an email to him to confirm the design I realized it was not at all what I was attempting to do but was interesting. I had to go back and redo it to get it right. What would you call the mistake? Ann in TN
The wrong one The right one |
I like the wrong one, it gives it even more movement :)
'Seeing double Storm at sea' !!! I LIKE your version better, far more interesting visually, go for it :)
I like your mistake better too. I would call it Wavy Waves or Turbulent Ocean. Really cool looking!
I like the wrong one better, looks more like a storm!
I have seen this variant before, called something like double storm. The term for this sort of event is serendipity. It is very good that you are open to seeing the possibilities when you make such a wonderful "mistake".
The second is very traditional and the first is really unusual and tricks the eye. It has the illusion of a double exposure. There is a greater amount of motion in the first.
Not a mistake but a variation! I like how it appears to be moving, like the waves on the water!

Very interesting, and beautiful. I hope you make it in fabric. Here's a near-duplicate that someone made - scroll way down to see it -

Your "wrong" version is better. It give more wave action.
Riptide or Tidal Wave. Like the variation--lot of work.
I like the "wrong one" also. I don't think I would rip that out!
I like the first one better. Maybe it's not a mistake. Maybe you are suppose to make the first one.
I would call the mistake a happy accident, I love it!!
I like the mistake. Name it after your son. Maybe _____'s Stormy Sea or something like that.
:) |
I agree with folks, your version (1st one)is way more interesting. I hope you'll celebrate your unique design and make it. Love to see it when you're done.
I like the first one too. What about "Perfect Storm" ?
Count me in for liking the first one too!
How about Many Storms.
i'd call it beautiful. maybe name it 'very stormy sea'
I like the wrong one too.....can't wait to see the finished version!
I pick the wrong one also. Its cool.
I have to say I'm loving the mistake, WOW what movement it has, I was almost sea sick. It is lovely.
I love the first one. Looks more like waves. very good movement.
I would call it harder! Just kidding! You could call it Sea Sick.:D
I have to agree with the majority, your version is great!
I love them both but that first one for some reason the name 'The Perfect Storm' came to mind!!
I would call it "The Wow Error". It's beautiful.
I agree the wrong one is much more eye grabbing
TO borrow parts from others what about "Turbulent Storm At Sea"?
"Storms at Sea"? |
I like to First one, you could also call it "Cross Current".

The wrong one The right one Neither is right or wrong. They are simply two different versions of the same design. Google STORM AT SEA and you'll find both. Some like the double, I prefer the single. The yellow is interesting though. I've always seen the blocks in various shades of blue, which would be my preference, but the yellow is eyecatchine. |

thus the name STORM AT SEA! |
Is there a reason to change STORM AT SEA'S name? Both patterns have long been called STORM AT SEA.
Personally I would call the "wrong" one way, way cooler - but most likely way, way more work too. Go with what works for you.
ncredbird,
I would call it creative karma. I actually prefer the 'mistake'. After all, every vessel needs to dock sometime- and that is what the green says to me. I'm with woody, definately more movement going on in the first one. Good luck and have fun. best, d btw- I got a good chuckle out of your siggie line.

Wow, I don't think it's a mistake, it's a new design  - I love the title suggestions of Cross Current and Rip Tide - they both connotate strong water movement, which your design certainly contains. If you decide to make it, please be sure to share it with us!
I like your wrong one.
I like the "mistake" better. I would call it Double Down.
