There is an odometer on our machines - it's called a spool of thread. My spools are the 1200 yard spools. When that spool runs out I've sewn almost 2/3rds of a mile or more

Until such time as that million $ invention of the bobbin thread feeding from an external source couldn't we just have ALL machines have the same type of bobbin so I could go from my Bernina to my Pfaff to my Singer to my New Home using just one type of bobbin. I spend way too much time hunting for the "right" bobbin. At my age, I often forget which bobbin go to which machine.

we can keep track of hours. like when we need to tell someone how long we worked on pcing or hand quilting. and each spool of thread tells how much is there; that translates into yards/miles lol. details . . .bit of pain but doable.

I still have my singer that does that! I got it the year my son was born so that's 30 years old. I LOVED being able to fill the bobbin with the same thread spool I was sewing with without unthreading the machine!!

I am with you, i hate winding bobbinseven if my machine does it for me. It seems I always run out of bobbin thread half through a seam!
