My Viking Designer SE has a bobbin sensor--and I love it! Before I got my Viking though, I had an older Pfaff--no sensor--but I got to know the machine well enough that I could tell by the sound of it running that the bobbin was just about to run out. Anybody else experience that too?

I had the same thing happen, I too took a break and walked out and told my husband we needed to invent a fix for this, after all the machine stops when you are winding the bobbin and it gets full, so why not when it gets empty. DUHHHH
It truly is not our fault since we can't see the area just sewn behind the machine.
Very Frustrating.

i have done it a couple of times, and now i (almost obsessively) check the bobbin before starting any row, big area of quilting, or anthing else that takes a lot of thread....i put a new bobbin on when i am not sure the old one will make it......better safe than sorry........gina

I did that today. Then, I decided to clean and oil my machine before starting to sew again. I got the machine all cleaned then went to look for the book that shows me all the places I need to oil...got sidetracked and cooked some chicken for a chicken pot pie...I put the pie together....then I started organizing my storage room. I still haven't made it back to the machine....maybe tomorrow. I just hate when I get sidetracked.

One thing that I think would be extra handy is for the manufacturers to work out a way to let you know that you have two metres of thread left on the bobbin - whatever weight thread - when the light starts flashing. Mine varies even with the same weight and the light is erratic as to when it will work....back to checking and guess work.

There is a blinking bobbin icon on my Bernina 1630 when you get closed to the end of thread that I really liked for many years. Now that she is about 18 years old it doesn't blink so I also have disasters if not paying attention. I think I'll have that fixed next time I get her cleaned. I really do miss that feature.

My Janome has a warning but I often ignore it. If I'm smart that day, I keep peeking under the quilt to check the bobbin

My Viking does tell me when the bobbin runs out. It stops and puts a picture up on the screen, and won't let me sew anymore! It is so nice, because I used to do the same thing!
