I guess I'm unusual because I do like to do the binding, making it, mitering corners, sewing it down and hand stitching the back. I know I will have my quilt all done when I finish and I love that feeling. what I dislike are borders and sandwiching the quilt. I find it so hard to manipulate all that fabric.

I don't mind it and as soon as it is quilted I do the binding. I do the hand sewing while watching TV with my DH. A small lap quilt can be done in a quilt of hours, the larger the more time.

I enjoy sewing the binding on my quilts. I wrap the quilt around my lap as I hand sew the binding on the back of the quilt. I think about the person and say a few prayers as I sew. By the time I am finished, I have thoroughly loved and prayed over the quilt. When I give the quilt to family or friends or even keep, the quilt is "stitched with love and bound with prayer," which is what I add to every label.

I currently have 5, yes, 5 quilts that need binding on them. I thought it was just me. I've even considered paying someone to do it for me. Your thoughts?

I like pieced bindings for a lot of the quilts I do--I have found that
the left-over jelly-roll strips (2 1/2" wide) are PERFECT for pieced bindings! |

I think there is something that we don't like to do, but I'd rather quilt than housework.

I really like doing binding too! Gives me something quilty to do while all the guys are watching tv or whatever in the evenings.
|
Yes, I have on that it's already sewed on to the back and pinned down. Now I just need to stitch it to the top.
|
I enjoy the binding part because it relaxes me and I know it's the last step before putting it on the bed or hanging on a wall.
|
I like the first 2 sides, then it starts to get old. I have started watching movies while I bind, it seems to help.

I think my intense dislike for hand stitching goes back to Home Ec. class! I have hated hemming or hand stitching ever since, maybe because I "stink" at it! I thought fuse web was an answer to prayer! My quilts usually look pretty good until I (a) start FMQ or (b) attach the binding! So I quess you'd have to say I hate it! I cannot for the life of me do a hand stitch that looks nice. So I sew it by machine :) Don't tell my quilts but they will never win a prize!

check this out - love this way of doing bindings  |
Guess I'm just weird but I love doing the binding. Bindings and Applique are my favorites so far.

For those who want to try machine stitching, this is what I did on the last couple of quilts.
Stitch the doubled binding to the back (I cut mine 2 an 1/2" and then double it) Then on the front I cut very thin strips of vlisofix (the fusible webbing stuff with paper on 1 side used for applique - I bought some in a roll that is used for fusing up hems)and ironed that just inside the seam allowance on the front of the quilt, next to the stitching line where you sewed the binding on. Then bring the binding to the front, lining the edge up with the stitching line, and press down onto the fusible webbing (remove the paper first :) ) Then I stitch almost on the stitching line using a tiny blanket stitch. You could use whatever stitch you liked. I've also seen where you can use glue to do the same thing but I find the webbing is fine. It takes a little time to get the binding in place but then it's just straight ahead with the sewing :) |
I'm kind of nerd, I enjoy the binding. (especially on a cold rainy evening). What helps get me through it is going to the library and borrowing some movies I actually want to watch. I set up with my beverage (with sport lid as to avoid messy spills) and remote and away I go!

I sometimes enjoy the binding, the part I hate the most is PINNING!!!!!!!!!!uuuugggghhhhh

I like binding but I am not very good at hiding the stitches.

me! Barf
I love everything else. |
I love the binding process, I usually let 3 or 4 stack up so I have something to do at night.

Do you have a CD player? Get a chiller and thriller audio book from the library to listen to. You will be surprised how that helps the time fly by! Also use hair clips or the ones they make to hold binding, they are easy. I used to know someone who brought her quilts and handstitched the back of the binding during our monthly quilt meeting. Do you have a quilting friend who will sew your binding? Bribe shamelessly with the offer of a pieced top for them to keep! |

I love to do the hand work on the binding on the back of the quilt. Very relaxing for me.

I love binding the quilt...it is relaxing to me and when I am done I know I am "almost finished" with it.....

I don't mind doing the binding at all. I find it relaxing and then I know the quilt is finished, Yippee I can start another one. :P

I like doing the binding. I find it comforting to be able to do some handwork in the evenings while I watch tv.
