Oh, I'm with you. I put off the binding till I can't stand the guilt anymore!!
I hate it hate it hate it!! But I'll keep trying till I get better at it
No don't mind it, enjoy looking at the quilted finished quilt.
Hate hand work! That's why I learned how to do the faux-piping binding that is all done on machine. Mine looks great when I do it by hand, just takes so long and makes my hands hurt.
I really don't mind doing the binding. I got three quilts back in the mail last Friday, put one of the bindings on that afternoon and the other two Saturday. I save whipping the down until I am sitting in the doctor's office or other type appointment. No wasted time that way and since I have developed a way to hide all of my stitching on the back, it is wonderful. And then you can call it FINISHED! !!
I am not crazy about binding it. I sew it on with the machine and
then turn it under and do it by hand and that part is fine. Just hate to get the first part done. |
I hate binding, hate it, hate it, hate it!

I don't seem to mind any part of quilting because I take my time and do each step as a slow process. :P

Go to google and type in Faux Piping Binding Tute and there are a few sites to click on. This is a neat way. Also I have heard that charity quilts for children should be machine bound not hand stitched. This helps a lot. You end up stitching in the ditch and it looks like piping when you get done.
Binding is my favorite part, to me it's very relaxing.
I hate with a passion! Most of the time I do the pillow thing and it turns out great!
I love doing the binding! For me...... it is like putting a photo in a frame. The binding highlights all the work I've put into the project. I will actually hurry to finish the quilting because I am excited to do the binding! LOL
I use Ricky Tims machine method. Very fast and looks great. My hands won't let me sew binding on by hand they swell and hurt.

I personally think binding is easy, and I do it all by machine.
I'm not fond of hand stitching the binding down, although it hasn't taken as long as I thought it would. But now I stitch the binding to the back and use my machine and a little stitch I have on my machine to machine stitch it to the front. I'm happy with that and will probably do that most times from now on :)
I love this tute! Can't wait to try it!
Hand sewing the binding on the back is one of my favorite parts - I do them in the evenings while watching (listening) to tv. I am also big into applique and do most of that in front of the tv at night. Do machine sewing during the day.
I don't mind binding my quilts. It makes me feel that with this project almost done, a new one will begin. What I really hate is quilting the three layers. I find it hard to push it thru and my arms get tired very quickly. Fibromyalgia and arthritis slow me down to the point of almost picking up the phone and calling the long arm quilter.
I hate binding also .. for the ones that do it all by machine how do you make it look right? Mine never looks how I want it too
I like doing the binding. I don't like the quilting part. I would rather baste than quilt!
I love to hand sew the binding.

I used to dislike the binding part but after making so many mug rugs for gifts, I've gotten quite good at them (with mitered corners even!) so now it's the cutting that I don't care for (if you mess that up then you've pretty much messed up the quilt - so much stress!)

I like doing the bining. It's like putting the final touches on it and then it's done and I can start another quilt.
I like makiong quilt tops but not finishing them.
I love to bind the quilts. I love the hand sewing it to the back. I love to see the finished quilt or wall hanging or baby quilts. When I bind a childs quilt that will be washed many many time's I will once in a while use the machine and a fancy to to hold the binding, but not always pleased with it. I can knot a lot more for a ids quilt and I think it holdes just as goos as the machine stitching.
I do a few for other ladies here and I love the gifts and fabric certificates they give me and the $ too. |
I don't care to do the binding either but just because it kills my hands to do it. Other than that it is a good way to relax. Just keep in mind it is the very last step and once it is done you can sit back and say TA DA DONE.
I LOVE binding them! It's nice to do something sitting down instead of standing behind the machine --- and then I know it's all done! :D

Have you tried machine binding your quilt. I don't do it on anything that I am going to put in a show (hahahaha) which means I do it on everything. I sew the binding to the back of the quilt, turn it over and use a button hole stitch to sew it down to the front.
If I do decide to hand stitch it, I do it while watching a movie. That way it isn't so boreing.

I have done a whole total of 2 very small quilts and so far the binding is my favorite part because it is easy. I can sit and watch TV with several pugs on my lap while doing the hand stitching. I am sure I will learn to hate it, especially when I do my king sized quilt that I am working on now.
Keep in mind, binding is the last step and when done, you can go on to the next project. It will no longer be a WIP or UFO. |
I have so many quilts with the binding sewed but I haven't hand stitched the back. I thought that I was the only one like that! Good news for me :D
You are definitely not alone!
I hand bind the back in front of the TV so I can spend sometime with DH. I did just recently bind one by machine and I did not like how the back showed the stiching as I was not able to stay in on the seam line.

I HATE binding the quilt especially when I have to sew by hand the other side! TreeFrog |
I love to bind a quilt. The hand sewing relaxes me.
I love hand sewing the binding - it also relaxes me and when I see the finished product, I feel pleased all over. It's like reading a good book and coming to the end.
