I will be using the lime green and black blocks, with another block for this quilt, I decided to use only what I had on hand so mixing up the green batiks, and also mixing up the other color too, LOL will post picture of the other blocks when I finished them.
thank you all, I like working with black, and even hand quilting on it does not bother me as the needle is sliver against the black so I know where my stitches go. |

I would have liked to have the den, but DH claimed it for his man cave.
My oldest daughter got a sewing machine for Christmas last year from her SO. She has taken a spare bedroom and made it her sewing area. (no kids) One day, we shall all be empty nesters and have our very own sewing space! (I love being an empty nester!) My DSD is off to college next week. She lives with her mom, but has had a room with us as well. She took everything she wanted on the weekend, so now I am thinking I will move into that room for sewing as it is a little bigger than what I have now, plus it has two windows, so lots more light. No sewing room here either. Someday I guess. I still have 2 (18 and 21) at home and I am not sure they will ever leave. Of the 4 I have 1 independant, 1 who is finally independant but was a boomerang for quite awhile and then the 2 still here. I have a corner of the livingroom. My cutting table seems to be everyone's drop point. :x I have to clean it before I use it all the time. Oh to have a place of my own!

These went on a beach towel for my son returning from Iraq on Friday:) I was given a bunch of fleece and reduced it to four blankets for a VA project, and 22 blankies for Operation Stork. One of my friends took all those cut blankets and put binding around all the edges. Since all of the fleece was one color, my friend finally got tired of their being so plain ... I insisted that every binding had to be different, so that if two veterans or their babies end up in the same place, someone will always be able to tell them apart, even if they are the same color, the binding is different. She finally started cutting up novelty fabric and sewed a "picture" in one corner of the blankie for the babies. As it happened, the next time I went to the Workday at the Post, someone had gifted me with TWENTY! 50"x60" micro fleece blankets ... well! They are going to one VA facility, so as soon as my back gets healed up, I am going to use your example as how to make each blanket different ... won't that just make the wards a more colorful place??? Thank you for the idea! <wave> |

This WHOLE thread has been an inspiration, and as you can see ... I am way behind times.
Since everyone who joined ended up being so productive AND creative, has anyone considered doing something like this on another thread? If so - - could you post the link to your next project/challenge that you decided on? Of course, I am down in the back right now, so none of this is doable in my world, but it sure has been an eye opener of how much could be accomplished by doing at least one thing that same every day. I have long suspected that it would be a great way to work, but have never gotten around to doing it. And, here you are! You confirmed my suspicions, and now I have no more excuses. I'll bet Miss Swan Song never imagined what she was starting! Good job, EVERYONE! <wave> |
Hmmmm Tomorrow is the last day of August, so I guess I had better get my butt in gear tonight!!! I have the last of my squares done, but still have about 60 blocks to put together. Yeah, sounds like a lot, but it goes quickly when they can be assembly lined. It won't get quilted for a couple of weeks, but as long as I get the top done, I will be a happy camper. :)
I had to take a break from my nines to get a wall hanging finished for our garden table at church. I figured if I didn't get it done soon, it would have to wait for next years' garden!!! LOL Patti |

You got that right!!!! And I have been knitting/crocheting, etc in church for so many years, that no one batted an eye as I sat stitching the binding on.!! hehehe

Patti My mom went to a church like that, but it was clear across the state from me. I admire people that can sit calmly with their hands folded in their laps while listening to the sermon, but I personally would prefer working on something as I listen - - I am, after all, a multi-faceted human being <g> ... It is productive worship! Especially, when, as a handcrafter, I know that I developed a talent based on a gift I received from my Heavenly Father ... I have "talent on loan from GOD!" Some people sing, some people dance, some people preach, teach, exhort, ... bet you can tell I have thought long and hard about this, can't you? LOL Good show! <wave> |
Come on down!!!!! You are always welcome. :)
A lot of what I knit during service is prayer shawls...so I feel like they are getting a little extra prayer knitted in as I go. ;) Patti |
from a non-participant - great blocks and wonderful quilts. It was great running threw and seeing everything :)

I have been thinking a long time about how to follow up this little project and have come up with several ideas. I think we could use a quilt thru the winter project. So I think after a month or 2 to get our dear 9Ps put together I will make another "quilt along" suggestion. Stay tuned. ;) I hope my computer cooperates this time! :|

Swan Song, that would be wonderful! Even tho I didn't get in the full amount of 9 patches made, I'm still working on them and will continue to do so after this *quilt along* is finished (tomorrow!) I have so many small projects lined up for the blocks I have done so far. Thank you so much for this as it has been very inspiring and motivating for me. |
Yes, this was a great idea even though I didn't get mine all done, I plan to make all that I was supposed to and hope DH(???) will quit complaining when I want to sew!!!
|
this was a GREAT idea, and I still have my Christmas fabric 9 patchs to do something with.
I think it would be great to repeat this after the first of year. Maybe with pinwheels??? I am off to start a new topic |
Yes by all means a great idea. I started sewing more 9P again. TammyD and I swapped 1.5" squares and now have more variety for my other 9P project of a charm quilt. I swear I'm ADD--always more than one or two or three projects going on!!

Here is a pic of my second tabletopper. I do have about 10 more 9Ps to make today. I have all the 9Ps done to make my Mom's lap quilt. I will post a pic when I have the top done.
I hope you all have enjoyed the activity. I have enjoyed meeting y'all and you have inspired me with your creativity. I can't wait to see all the finished tops from this project. :) tabletopper 2 |
Swan Song, that is gorgeous. I'm afraid the the big slacker in this group. I kind of got lost along the way here and it will be a while before I can get back to these 9 patches, but I sure enjoy seeing what you overachievers have gotten accomplished.

Swan Song, that is SOOOO pretty! Great job.

Well I got all my blocks completed and the 3rd tabletopper. That still leaves me a bunch to complete and quilt for Christmas. I have a good start and plenty of blocks.

Beautiful work. Tabletopper2 is my favourite.

I want to personally thank Swan Song for encouraging all of us to do this project together. Also I want to tell everyone that participated in this challenge that it was fun and I enjoyed seeing everyone's progress whether they were completed or not. It was so fun! We truly have some very talented and creative people on this board. I can't wait to see what the next challenge will be(i.e.: pinwheels) and I'll definitely be participating. Happy quilting to ALL!!
