OK, but I am scrambling for enough stash/scrap fabric now. I think I will do two seperate projects maybe...

Swan Song 06-09-2010 05:29 AM

I think I may do a couple projects also. Not sure yet. It just has to be a 9 nine patch a day they don't have to all go to one project.

Nana2Sew 06-09-2010 05:38 AM

I like this idea.......count me in.

Swan Song 06-09-2010 05:55 AM

I have added Nana and updated the group activity page to reflect the change from August 15 to the 31. In case you missed it the link to the page is-

We are now at 40 people http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy096.gif

Pam 06-09-2010 06:06 AM

OK, but be prepared, I am making what could possibly the ugliest quilt ever produced with beautiful fabrics. I am NOT a scrap fan, and my diverse tastes are clashing!

brushandthimble 06-09-2010 06:09 AM

Swan Song, thanks for setting this up! I love to make 9 patches; will take pictures later today of the 2 baby quilts I have been making the past week, just need to finish the bindings.

Swan Song 06-09-2010 06:14 AM

I have been rummaging thru my stash. I am trying to plan projects for them. I really have never done anything scrappy. I have a problem with random.

Pam 06-09-2010 06:17 AM

Same here, Swan Song. I am trying to use op some tiny strips. I think I have about 6 pieces of fabric in just one square of a 9 patch. This one might be a charity quilt, or for the camper.

JudyG 06-09-2010 06:28 AM

I spent a good portion of last evening going through my scraps and cutting blocks for this. I decided to try to three different size blocks. I'm cutting my prettier fabrics into 3-1/2" squares for a 9" finished 9 patch and my uglier fabrics into 1-1/2" squares for a 3" finished 9 patch. And cutting lots of 2-1/2" squares for a 6" finished block. We'll see how it goes when putting it together.

Now that I have my scraps cut into squares, I hope to strip piece the ones I cut from larger pieces of fabric. Those little 1-1/2" squares will be a pain to work with.

Swan Song 06-09-2010 06:42 AM

Here is an interesting 9 patch. It would be a great way to use little scraps.

Swan Song 06-09-2010 07:36 AM

I went thru the thread and found a couple I missed. Please everyone go thru the list at this link-

http://www.quiltingboard.com/group_a...jsp?gracnum=59

and make sure your name is there. Let me know if I missed you.

Pam 06-09-2010 07:45 AM

OK, I am new to this, have not done one of these before. What is the link for, other than to list the users? How will we use it? Is it only for Swan Song? So many questions.

CraftsByRobin 06-09-2010 08:04 AM

I would like to join, but I don't have a lot of stash ... so I will need to purchase some material ... will go through the material I have FIRST before buying.

I have PMed you Swan Song to add me ... thanks :)

Robin

Swan Song 06-09-2010 08:44 AM

Pam I will be adding links to the pictures you post in the public section so you can see what everyone is up to without having to search this thread.

Robin, I have added you. We are now up to 43 happy 9 patch makers.

debbieumphress 06-09-2010 08:47 AM

OK Swan SOng, put me in. I am cleaning out my sewing room as we speak. This will be fun. ALso I agree with extending the dates. If Imake two a day, I will have two Christmas gifts done. This is a challenge and I promise to dedicate myself to finishing with flying colors . Guess I had better keep some of my scrap packages for me. LOL. I could send out 20 and still have a scrap bag. I am not a hoarder...Iam not a hoarder....Is there a 12 step program for hoarders? LOL Happy quilting. The 15th is on my calendar to start. I am doing a disappearing 9 patch.

Swan Song 06-09-2010 08:53 AM

Great! I have added you. I am not a hoarder either...really...really!

Remember there are NO quilt police. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-char039.gifThe only rules are make 1 nine patch a day from June 15 to August 15 and you use your stash to do it. (If you are a new quilter without a large stash and have to buy fabric don't break the bank.) Make more than 1 a day if you want, any size you want, any colors you want, set them any way you want and give them to whomever you want or keep it and cuddle into it this winter. Anything goes! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/s...merv/dance.gif

Thinking of using my odds and ends of Christmas fabric....

That is a very interesting block. I like scrappy quilts and have decided to just cut 2 1/2 inch strips off of different fabrics to make it really scrappy. On June 2, I ordered a June Tailer Shape cut Pro to make it more efficent to cut strips, but alas, they were out of stock and as of today, still has not been shipped

That's one of the nice things about scrappy quilts. When I buy fabric, I just buy patterns and colors I like, with no project in mind. How's that for lazy quilting

Edited to add: I will not be able to post pictures. Last year I put my camara *somewhere safe* and ended up hiding it from myself.

Swan Song 06-09-2010 09:02 AM

When I shop I buy fabric for specific projects BUT then if something "speaks" to me or if it's on sale and too good to pass up I buy that also. Fabric "speaks" to me a lot. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/s...ashamed005.gif

What's a disappearing 9-patch?

Swan Song 06-09-2010 09:15 AM

Ok Melinda posting pictures is not required but if you find your camera we will be expecting pictures. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-fc/yes.gif

Swan Song 06-09-2010 09:16 AM

Robin there are links to disappearing 9 patch pictures and tutorial on page 4 of this thread.

debbieumphress 06-09-2010 09:46 AM

Rhonda. I make a regular 9 patch and then press. cut in in half horizontally and then vertically. then turn the pieces to form whatever shape you want the top to be

I moved this back here in case anyone else needs to raise a hand, LOL.

Melinda in Tulsa 06-09-2010 10:02 AM

Will a D9P count as a 9 patch in this *Sew Along*??

laurlync 06-09-2010 10:08 AM

Hi, all! I am sort of new here and new to quilting. I joined a while back and am addicted to this site! I have made two complete quilts and have machine quilted a third with a top I bought. I will properly introduce myself and include pictures of the quilts later, but...I would LOVE to join this project. I can work this in with my other projects and, if I make two 9-patches per day, I'll soon have enough for two quilts! And if I make three per day...LOL!

Count me in!

Swan Song 06-09-2010 10:20 AM

Melinda, you will be making the traditional 9 patch before you cut it and any 9 patch counts. There are no rules except 1 per day and use your stash as much as possible.

laurlync, I have added you.

I'm in too. I'm still making the quilts for the CitizenSAM organization (quilts for wounded military). I started Memorial Day weekend and when I shopped for the fabrics, my eyes were bigger than my stomach, so to speak. I'm on the 5th quilt top now, and probably have enough patriotic fabric for another 15-20 quilts. So why not make some of them nine patch?

I figured by the time I'm done with this project, I should be very, very skilled at machine quilting!

Swan Song 06-09-2010 01:17 PM

I added you Dagny  What a great cause.

Gr8Gr8 Gran Quilter 06-09-2010 01:27 PM

COUNT ME IN. I'LL TRY TO WORK IN AT LEAST ONE BLOCK A DAY STARTING 6/15 ALONG WITH MY OTHER DNP BLOCKS.

Melinda in Tulsa 06-09-2010 01:31 PM

Can't wait to get started! I've got a JT Shape Cut Pro coming and some ebay fabric.

Dagny 06-09-2010 01:38 PM

Here's a cute variation on a nine patch:

Ladies, I found a couple patterns in an older issue of Quick Quilts that look are rather different.
The pics below are from the website and I hope they show up well.
Rolling is multiple sizes arranged to look like the quilt is rolling waves.
Pesto is one 9 patch square as one square of another 9 patch
Puzzle is what I was trying to describe earlier about mixing different size 9 patch block and solids
Hope you like the ideas...willing to share patterns if PM'd

Just to clarify the "sharing"...I am refering to a link for free downloads from the website

Just a quick note to let you know I will be working the next 2 nights. I didn't want you to think I have disappeared. I will add anyone who wants to join in the mornings when I get home before I drag myself off to bed.
