Can anyone give the pixel x pixel size that makes the picture the correct size? I always just guess, because I really don't know. Not laziness at all, and I'm not stupid. I just don't know how to find out that information.

I have Windows 7 and i was playing w/ the right click feature. With Windows 7, when I hover over the picture, right click on the picture, a window comes up. Click on VIEW WINDOW INFO Another window pops up w/ the window size. Some pictures have the pixels and others say "Resized to xxxxx"(which is why I wonder if the Board automatically resizes the pictures???) When I take my pictures, I can resize them in Microsoft Picture Manager to a "Web Small" - which is 448x360 I can get to the Microsoft Picture Manager by right clicking on my picture after downloading it. A window pops up and I can "Open withXXXXXX" I chose the Picture Manager. I hope that helps some of you. I tried to go back and edit it, but guess I waited too long :( |

It comes in over the phone lines, but is really fast. I can get anything I know how to get! ! ! I haven't found anything yet that wouldn't come in. The phones have filters on so that I can use the phones and computer at the same time. It works great.

I'm going to be a little different here, and say that I LIKE the larger photos. I like it when a smaller one is shown on the board, but I can click it and it gives me one that fills my entire screen, which is about 15" x 18"
I can get the beauty of the piecing with the smaller, but the larger shows the actual quilting pattern stitches, something I want to see |

Mavisk: I assume you're referring to DSL service when you say "dial up wireless". I can't even get that where I am :( Anyway, please don't stop trying to post pictures!! My main reason for starting this thread was to make you aware that the size of your pictures might prevent me from including them in the gallery. I had not seen this problem until just recently, so I thought a friendly reminder to be aware of the size was in order. |
Several people have asked about a "good" size to aim for. 640 x 480 pixels wide is the "old" standard and ought to be viewable by pretty much any computer, no matter how old, and will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/2 the maximum 1 meg maximum file size requested. It should load quite quickly and still show enough detail.
I checked our Quilt Gallery section and it appears that most of the pictures there have been sized at 600 pixels wide and are certainly large enough to enjoy by all! So, no matter what program you use to "save picture for the web", you'll do great if you size them at either: 600 pixels wide or 8" wide with a "resolution" of 72 dpi (dots per inch) Once you have saved your picture in this size, you should be able to attach it to a posting with a pretty quick upload time. To actually attach a picture while posting, you need to click on the "insert image icon" that is 3rd from the right on the bar directly above where you are typing your "Quick Reply" or "Posting a New Thread". Then choose the Tab that says "From Computer", click on the "Browse" button and to where you saved the resized picture and click to select it, and the last step is to click "upload file" under where the file name will be listed. That should take you back to your post where you should see a small "icon" of your uploaded picture. At that point, you can continue typing or go through the same steps to add more pictures. if pics are too large, they won't load. i know that but can't remember the size. i also size mine in Paint. recently i stopped doing them down to 150kb. that is just too small to see any detail. but i haven't posted a pic in here in awhile either. can't find directions less than many paragraphs long and my brain halts at all those words. simple explanations are best.

It's mostly plain laziness not to resize pictures. All you have to do is read instructions and with youtube you can see it done on just about every picture editing program there is. It is too simple to learn to do. Picasa is free and will do everything you need to a pic. Resize, edit, save in any format, upload to a free online storage, copy, crop, straighten, enhance, face recognition. It's an amazing program. Most don't know all you have to do is right click on an image/pic and select copy image. Then just right click and paste in the post. No need to upload. . . .
As far as that goes, even the term 'resizing' is confusing to me - From the many anguished pleas for help in posting photos, I don't think 'laziness' is/was part of the problem. |
