I've done some postage stamp projects, I didn't wash any of the fabrics and it turned out fine.

I just realized that we've gotten away from the original question. The problem isn't washing versus not washing, but using fabrics for a postage stamp quilt, right?
I can say that I use 100% cotton fabircs, no Holiday or novewlty prints. I alternate dark & light; any shade, any color. I've not completed a PS quilt yet, but working on it.
Good luck with your allergies.

I never pre wash my fabric and have never had a problem. I hope you didn't toss them!

i don't wash my fabric until after it's quilted...i prefer the stiffness of the fabric as i piece it..i agree with another member, "your quilt, your rules"...one of the things i like most about quilting, and you'll see this in classes, is the same block or pattern can be done with different colors and they are all beautiful and different in their own right! :-)

Who said you have to prewash your squares? It is your quilt, your choice. I hope you haven't thrown them out.....they're very usable!

You must have a lot of patience to do this quilt. Good luck!

I have spent the last 3 months cutting my stash of fabric into 5", 4", 3.5", 2.5", and 2" squares. I have a box of 1.5" strips that is going to be my postage stamp quilt that I am going to strip piece together. I can't wait to start sewing.

I wouldn't waste all of the material just because someone said to pre - wash.Use them in a crumb quilt or make a collage as Susan Carlson does or make it and wash later,or use the smaller pieces. There would be no way that they would be thrown out.

Is there a 1 1/2 strip die for the accuquilt cut it long ways then turn them and recut the long strips into 1 1/2 squares. Hope that helps.
