I'm 56 but I started quilting when I was 31.

OmaForFour 04-28-2011 05:26 AM

Maybe I shouldn't answer this because I am 72. LOL

Chip 04-28-2011 05:27 AM

By the way - she just loves to quilt.

What is wrong with old ladies? The world is full of those lucky enough to make another birthday. I will soon be 80 and with the work I put out in a day, including a part time job as a telemarketer, it does not leave me time for the rocking chair. He needs to find something to do besides giving you grief about your companions. He has much to be thankful for. You are doing something constructive, keeping house, him fed, instead of running the streets looking looking for trouble. Hey, he could even learn to quilt. By the way, how old is he. Could be he is too old for you.

Kat Sews 04-28-2011 05:31 AM

61 now. Completed my first full size quilt when I was 17, and baby quilt when I was 9.

Kimcatlou 04-28-2011 05:33 AM

Well, I guess I am the "old lady" in the group; I didn't start quilting until after I retired at age 60, but am addicted to it now.

Anyway, I will be 80 in September, am now living in a retirement facility and caregiver for a disabled husband. However, against our daughters' objections I brought most of my fabric and sewing supplies with me. We were able to get a small house with 2 large bedrooms, so I have my own sewing/computer room. (Sewing and my computer save my sanity--Now, if I can just learn to say "No" to sewing requests from family and friends who think I have nothing to do!)

Just don't tell anyone how much time I spend reading messages from this group.

Maire 04-28-2011 05:34 AM

71, this weekend if my 50th nursing school reunion!

Good thing quilting has no age or gender

All you need is needle, thread and material - guess that makes us materialistic

What a great way to make friends and share stories of the generations. :!: :!: :!:

sew_meme 04-28-2011 05:37 AM

luvstitches 04-28-2011 05:39 AM

maryb119 04-28-2011 05:39 AM

56 here. I started quilting at 21. Does that count?

katykwilt 04-28-2011 05:39 AM

67, been quilting for 35 years.

mimee4 04-28-2011 05:40 AM

I'm 70 but started quilting in my mid 30s. My DGS - 21 - likes to sew and made a "quilted" toy for his dog. Count him in, too.

dltaylor 04-28-2011 05:41 AM

49!! and proud of it!! Not old just getting started!! LOL

MsSewer 04-28-2011 05:43 AM

I'm 60 and proud of it.

mhansen6 04-28-2011 05:45 AM

I will be 57 next month. But I don't consider that old. Also what is wrong with hanging out with "older women"? I have learned so much from this board and from women who have been quilting for years.

mile hi quilter 04-28-2011 05:45 AM

51 and going strong

humbird 04-28-2011 05:46 AM

75 next month. Maybe the oldest on the board? Didn't read thru them all. Been sewing and quilting most of my life, so started out "young"

Yankee in Texas 04-28-2011 05:46 AM

59 but have quilted off and on for many years

Another 49 year old. started sewing at about 12-learned to sew a straight stitch by my godmother-picked everything else by myself. went to a summer course at about 13 for crotcheting-started quilting 2 years ago-no one in my family is a crafter-maybe i'm the milkman's daughter?

quilter sue 04-28-2011 05:47 AM

Well you tell your husband that I am an old lady, I will be 74 in July, just what is his point :XD: Just kidding, I have a husband and I know what buttheads they can be at times. Hope I dont make you all mad

Baloonatic 04-28-2011 05:49 AM

I started to sew when I was 6 or 7, but didn't made my first quilt till about 25 I think. I'm more than double that now and have made too many quilts to count! I didn't know to document them at first, now I keep photos in my computer but I still occasionally forget to get the pic!
Go ahead and whack the DH. Trust me, they need it!

No matter how well I hide sweets, my DH will find them within 48 hours! I put a bag of cookies in the dead dishwasher and he found them in 2 days flat...and we hadn't used that dishwasher in over 5 years! He's positively eerie!

And yes, I've replaced that old dishwasher too!

Now he's a type 2 diabetic. He has switched to sugar-free candy, but he still eats 'real' sugar foods too, although not as much, and tells me his A1C is fine. I have to take his word for it...
The newest member in one of my guilds is 18 and OMG is she a good quilter!!!

Aquarius 04-28-2011 05:49 AM

64 right now

My quilt guild is over 100 in membership and nearly 60 in attendence each month.. so, all shape, heights and ages.. young ( 30's, to 80's) so.. he is just grumpy.. I call mine Archie, as in Archie Bunker.. He tells me I am no Edith.. I just smile.. take that as a compliment. hah!

Give him my riddle to help out his sugar problem. I have celebrated the 21st anniversary of my 29th birthday. It really gets students thinking.
