55, which seems to be quite a few of us. But I just recently started quilting more seriously.

LAQUITA 04-27-2011 08:14 PM

47 here in Texas! :)

spartan quilter 04-27-2011 08:15 PM

I had to scroll through all the posts to find out how many were my age or older, and I really fall into the much older category. I am 67, and there was one my age and I think, 6 older. But, I have learned so much about quilting here, and I started sewing when I was 10, going to 4-H. I am glad someone labeled it a sport, because it is the only one I can participate in anymore.

connie_1936 04-27-2011 08:17 PM

Kas 04-27-2011 08:36 PM

45. And my pinhead son says the same thing!

amandasgramma 04-27-2011 08:43 PM

61 now -- been quilting since I was in my 20s....so he can't say we're little old ladies.

writerwomen 04-27-2011 08:53 PM

Of course we're all old. So are our husbands. so- if they're smart they won't tell us how old we are or we'll start reminding them how their hair is grey and thinning. Those eyebrows could be classified as shelter. More men are wearing a tshirt that fits a bit snugger to give some support to their sagging chest.wearing pants that go under the belly instead of around is just as bad as the street punks who wear theirs around their knees. And for goodness sakes put on a belt- otherwise the neighbors may call the cops on a senile old grump who has nothing better to do then annoy everyone else. Actuall y I chide my husband how old he is- he is 10 months older then me- 47 last I remember- who cares.

57 and loving life!

montanajan 04-27-2011 09:14 PM

I am 64. I began quilting at about age 60.
Mom started teaching me how to use her old Singer when I was 5 - doll clothes back then. I have been sewing, doing embroidery, knitting, cross stitching, crewel, needlepoint ever since. I was tatting at age 7 - doing "old lady work" when a neighbor taught me.

WinSumLsSm 04-27-2011 09:21 PM

gramajo 04-27-2011 09:22 PM

68--I can't believe I'm this old :). Actually it's harder to believe that my "baby" is 45. Her older sister who is 47 is the one that started me quilting.

ChubbyBunny 04-27-2011 09:23 PM

I'm 45....started quilting when I was 39. My daughter is 13.....she started quilting when she was 9. 8-)

Rose_P 04-27-2011 09:50 PM

Old is always at least 25 years down the road from where I am, which currently is 63. But I've been quilting a bit since my 20's. It's just that we tend to have more time for hobbies after empty nest and retirement.

Thusnelda 04-27-2011 09:54 PM

Turning 37 next month.

tinker 04-27-2011 09:57 PM

I'm 63,started quilting in 1995. It took awhile 30-plus yrs to realize that Butthead is part of a man's genetic make-up Tinker

Kitsapquilter 04-27-2011 10:17 PM

I am so proud to say that I just had a birthday the 21st of April and I turned 70 years young!!! I started quilting at about 50 I guess but have been sewing for much longer. Probably since about 6 years old when I made my Grandma a pot holder and embroidered on it too. My Mom was a wonderful teacher!

amyjo 04-27-2011 10:18 PM

61 and getting addicted to old singers. I have had an empty nest for 12 years. OUr youngest stayed at the college during the summer and worked to help pay for her tuition. She paid for it all on her own too. She is now in HR at a coal mine in Wyoming. She comes home once in a while. like Christmas and once in the summer. I have two daughters who live 50miles from me and I went there today and did some shopping for calf pellets and some health aids and also to visit 4 of my grandchildren. The oldest is in NY and she has a 5 yr old. Used to go there before I had to work so much to pay for health ins and now my job pays most of it. It was 1300 a MONTH for two and now I pay 400 for two.

dellareya 04-27-2011 10:21 PM

Well, I had to use my calculator to figure it out and I came up with 62 years old. I stopped counting for a long time when I was 39. Sounded like a good age so I stayed there for 10 years. I'm happy to be 62 because I was able to retire. Now I get to quilt as much as I want to. I do substitute teaching to earn money for fabric.
