I leave mine open ( I have hundreds) . Store in a tupperware container . Keep a magnet in container, no problems. Just dump a bunch & pin. Not too much of a tangle. Opening once is enough. LOL.

I store them opened in a plastic square bin. ready to use. A few shakes on the quilt and they seperate ready to pin

Maybe if you got a large pin cushion for your safety pins to stick them into? I would think you'd want to stick them into something so they don't get all tangled.

I bought a rubbermaid container in 1994 just for storing safety pins. It's about the size of a sandwich container, only a bit taller. Perfect. I never close the pins. You take a clod out, toss them around a bit and they come unstuck. If your pins are too big, they tend to get stuck together easier. I think I have what is referred to as a size one. They are a bit shy of one inch long. Don't forget to periodically clean your pins as they do get tarnish on them and that can transfer to your lighter colored fabrics.

I store mine open in an empty Clorox wipes container. I just turn it up side down and shake out the pins. They fall through the pop-up top and untangle themselves.

I store mine open and use an empty parmesean cheese container. Just like NanaCsews2 I shake out what I need.

Quite a few yrs.ago, body powder used to come in around tin. I have several. One Holds some of my button suppy and the other one holds safety pins. Yes I do throw them into the tin open. Don't wat to take the time to close each one.
