Time to make a choice--HELP!!

3 Attachment(s)
I need to make a final decision on fabrics for my niece's triple Irish chain. I have two lighter coloured fabrics and cannot decide which one will blend better. I have been looking at them for so long, that I am beginning to hate both of them. I am really hoping that all of you have better eyes than me! So which one blends better??

The first photo is the two fabrics in question. In the second and third photo, the rose fabric is not as harsh a colour as it looks, and will be used for the center of the chain.

I like the first choice

Crqltr 03-05-2012 09:37 AM

And I like the second.

glenda 03-05-2012 09:41 AM

I'll break that tie. The first looks better with the dark rose solid. The lighter looks washed out.

Lori B. 03-05-2012 09:42 AM

I like both. :) If I was making it, I would probably go with the 1st one.

Lucio 03-05-2012 09:45 AM

I prefer number 1 because the flecks of color pick up the darker tones in the other pinks. In number 2 the pink looks a little washed out.

mrs. fitz 03-05-2012 09:51 AM

I like the darker one.

MaryMo 03-05-2012 09:56 AM

I like the first .... the mottling in the light pink and green seem to compete in the second set. This should be a beautiful quilt.

Raggiemom 03-05-2012 09:58 AM

I like the second one better. Both will make a beautiful quilt.

DogHouseMom 03-05-2012 10:02 AM

I like them both but would choose the first with the darker speck to bring out the darks in the floral.

Nice fabrics! It's going to look lovely!!

jillnjo 03-05-2012 10:10 AM

First one for sure for me!! Pretty fabrics!

Lori S 03-05-2012 10:14 AM

I like the lighter .. because when the size of the sqaures are complete.. the lighter pink will appear to be more dominate than it does in the photos. I think if the darker/with specs is chosen you might over power the floral once the pieces are formed. If it was me I would cut the strip size and then look, showing only the size square of each color. Then choose. Look at the fabrics in the same scale as the final product , step back a few feet , it could make your choice easier.

paulettepoe 03-05-2012 10:16 AM

am glad this is your choice and not mine. I like them all. and the voters look tied.

lgc 03-05-2012 10:16 AM

IMHP they look like they are almost the same shade of pink, so I would go for the 1st one with more texture. A Double Irish Chain is on my to do list, so I am very jealous that you are making one. Good luck and keep us posted!

This is a great idea. Could solve your problem very easy.

I agree with this. I like the lighter if it is going to be a blender/background color. just because it will help to pop the other fabrics while the speckled one is more of an eye catcher. I agree also that it would probably take away from the floral and the other two fabrics. just this is just me. hope it helps.

pacquilter 03-05-2012 10:29 AM

I'd say the first one if you want a bolder look, and the second one if you want it to look softer.

AUQuilter 03-05-2012 10:35 AM

My first thought is that the first one offers more texture but since I haven't done an Irish Chain I would probably step back and make sure there is enough value difference. The second one might be a better choice if you need a lighter value. Then when I was finished with the top I would consider the one I didn't choose in the main top to be a thin border... They are all beautiful fabrics.

nycquilter 03-05-2012 10:48 AM

the first. If you only had the second, it would work, but given my druthers? I'd druther use the first

romanojg 03-05-2012 11:04 AM

I think the last one the colors just flow together and look like they belong together. That would be my choice.

TanyaL 03-05-2012 11:14 AM

I think you need a darker green.

Sadiemae 03-05-2012 11:16 AM

I really like the first, but if I were unsure I would make a test block with each and then choose.

QuiltnNan 03-05-2012 11:50 AM

i vote for the first one

momto5 03-05-2012 12:10 PM

First one.

MdmSew'n'Sew 03-05-2012 12:13 PM

Definitely the first one, the second one sort of gets lost in the shuffle, it's just too light in tone.

barny 03-05-2012 12:14 PM

I agree with Glenda, You have two light fabrics and two brights. I like the brighter ones. Just my opinion

Monroe 03-05-2012 12:18 PM

I like the first one- slightly stronger presence.

dunster 03-05-2012 12:31 PM

I also prefer the lighter one, but Lori is right - you need to see the fabrics in the scale they will appear in the quilt.

Candace 03-05-2012 12:40 PM

The first. It offers more contrast and interest.

Mad Mimm 03-05-2012 01:03 PM

I like the first one - I feel it gives a nice visual tie between the darker rose and the floral print. I like the texture too. I don't really think you can go wrong either way though - it will be a very pretty quilt!

Caroline S 03-05-2012 01:14 PM

Number one for me.

mighty 03-05-2012 01:38 PM

Both beautiful but perfer #1.

joyce888 03-05-2012 02:28 PM

I think I like the first one.

Christine George 03-05-2012 02:33 PM

The speckled one for sure. The darker spots blend with the dark in the flowers.

GingerK 03-05-2012 02:37 PM

Okay, thanks for all the input. I have a couple of days off next week and will make some test blocks (I was planning on doing that anyway because I am also undecided about which order to do the colours. But now I will make a block using each of the pinks and then compare them.)

You have all been awesome and made points I had not even thought about. I'll post a photo of the test blocks when they're done. Thanks again!

IMO, the spotty pieces matches the floral better.

I like the 1st one....but both would work. Please show us again after you decide and get it made! :)

alisonquilts 03-05-2012 04:14 PM

I like the darker fabric, but both are lovely (and it shouldn't be hard to find a use for whichever one you don't choose for this project!).

PS Post the final tally when you do make your decision!

Quiltaddict 03-05-2012 06:10 PM

I like the first one too.
