A few of us have been talking in the chat about starting a thread where folks could post a pic of that piece of fabric that you bought, put away, and then dug out sometime later, only to think..............why, for the love of Pete did I EVER buy that. Well, here ya go.. I am starting this by sending the world's ugliest piece of fabric to Khan.. Now the one thing I am not doing is posting a pic of it.. I was going to, but I don't want to ruin the surprise....roflol.. I'd love to be a mouse when he opens that Squishy!! and perhaps he will post a pic when he gets it.. so ladies and gents here you go.. I throw down the gauntlet to you.. post your ugly fabrics here.. and find a sucker...........um, I mean talented person who has an idea for a project here. :P

DebJ 05-28-2009 08:51 PM

Tippy, my only problem is even when we have such swap in my quilting group. I have a hard time finding such a fabric. I don't know if there is a fabric for quilting that I don't like. Even if is one I might not personally have a use for. For instance I recently found a fabic in my stash that says Little League all over it, it is okay not a favorite but can be used for a back of kids quilt should I ever make one. Or prehapes a back for these I spy I have waiting to be made. I am looking forward to seeing what people will post. I didn't post a pic because I haven't taken one. I might consider a swap of the LL fabric, might, we will see if someone is interested?

I posted my ugly last night on another thread. It is ugly but I like it too. It is soft.

mary quite contrary 05-29-2009 05:24 AM

DebJ I take that challenge. You pm me your address & I bet even you will find this fabric ugly.

I didn't buy it and I'm wondering why anyone would make it let alone buy it.

gaigai 05-29-2009 06:14 AM

Kwhite, you fiend you!!! I almost snorted soda out my nose when I saw that fabric. Now mind you, I'm a nurse and tend to see shapes of body parts. Take a closer look. I am still ROTFLMAO.

kwhite 05-29-2009 06:22 AM

OMG gaigai I am sitting here laughing my butt off. I never saw that one coming!!!! I would have never seen that if you had not mentioned it. You are right. Lord why didn't I see that too. Now I have to do something fun with it. Want some???

Oh, my sides hurt! Angie, you are baaaaaaad. And yes, kwhite, I'll swap you. I know, I'll make a stethoscope cover out of it and wear it to work!!!! ROTFLMAO!

I had no clue how to REALLY answer it! lol

What do you mean????? Take a closer look .... my eye! LOL I can't imagine the amount of brain dead one would have to be to MISS the ... dare I say "point"? LOL

Okay, now that I have calmed down a bit, I have a suggestion for your "ugly" fabric ... leave it to omak to fix things <g> ...
cut it all up into two inch squares and throw it into a scrap quilt.
Just to prove my point! I used to shop at Anna Lena's JUST because of her marvelous grab bag scraps ... I forget now what she called them, but there was always more than two yards of fabric in each package, and I usually was quite inspired with one of those - - why can I not remember what she called them???
Anyway, I do not do endangered species, and I could not for the life of me think of where I could put the hawaiin bathing beauties ... and, then my two inch square idea hit .... so, I cut it all up into two inch squares (or, it might have been two and a half inches) and started plugging them in to different scrap quilts. And, only because I KNEW what I was seeing <g> could anyone ever figure out that "that" was an elbow ... "this" was the lovely curve of a hip I never owned ... and, over "here" ... well, that was the uh ... top of the swimming suit. Other than that, they just looked like blobs of color.
So! I was so proud of my "solution" ... and was watching Simply QUilts and the guest mentioned the idea of cutting into squares. I kid you not! He had cut up the same fabric I have been trying to disappear for five years! .... I figure if a "pro" does it, I had a winning solution ... and, I didn't need to feel bad because I didn't like the bathing beauties.
It has now been ten years, and I am STILL finding those silly squares, and I can STILL identify the parts! LOL

Are we all having fun yet? <g> <---- that says it represents shock, but I think it looks more like an innocent look.

omak 05-29-2009 06:43 AM

okay ...
now that I read the rest of the thread
It really isn't brain dead ... it is INNOCENCE!
Everyone has a right to be innocent.
shame on me for confusing the two states of mind.
Please forgive my exuberance ... a stethoscope cover??? And, only YOU would know!
There is a certain amount of power knowing something noone else knows.
I think .... LOL

Ducky 05-29-2009 06:44 AM

I'm hoping Chris will post his fabric when he gets it.

gaigai 05-29-2009 06:54 AM

Omak, that is what is so delicious! I work in an ICU. Nights. Trust me, there is not one group of people on the face of this earth as twisted as we are. Of course EVERYONE will notice it immediately. (Except for maybe a couple of the sweet Philipino nurses. They are the ones who are the sweetest and most innocent.) As for your body parts thing, have you ever looked at the knees of the Indian Maiden on the Land O' Lakes Butter carton?

Nawww .... say it isn't so! I am not a real detail person, and frankly, I don't find the human body all that attractive ... I like looking into eyes <g> ... but, now, I will probably have to look at one of those butter cartons, JUST to see ...
shame on me!
Look at what you started! LOL actually ... it was the ugly fabric. Kwhite is right! that is AWFUL fabric! Whoever will beat that??? :?
I don't have much imagination, but the concept of WHAT will beat the fabric that made you snort soda out of your nose?
From now on, your nose and soda will be the standard! LOL It's probably the most objective judge we have at the moment, don't we all agree? <G>

collettakay 05-29-2009 07:04 AM

Now I have to go find a picture of the Land O Lakes Maiden.

ROTFLMAO too!!!! And I see I'm not the only baaaaaaad one. Can you imagine your patient's when the get a good look at your stethoscope cover?

gaigai 05-29-2009 07:09 AM

Omak, you're absolutely right. I think that kwhite has set the bar at the very tippy top and no one could POSSIBLY beat that fabric. And sad as it is to say it, OK, I'll let my nose be the standard. But I warn you, it burns to snort diet DP through the shnozz, so it will have to be reeeeeeaally exceptionally bad.

Nah, no one can beat that fabric. I'm not worried.

I am thinking about what kind of fabrics I'd combine it with, though. More body parts, like you mentioned? Sports fabric with baseballs & bats? Home improvement fabric with hammers and chainsaws? Squirrel fabric? Ice cream fabric? The possibilities are endless!

omak 05-29-2009 07:12 AM

Think - - that fabric, on a buxom blond, in the ICU unit ... in the middle of the night ...
that could be a lethal combination ...
okay ... I cannot keep going like this ...
I am going out to move sprinklers and cattle and see if anyone calved since I last checked an hour ago.
When I get back, I expect another picture or something!

kwhite 05-29-2009 07:12 AM

Oh my God I just peed my pants!!!!

Collettakay, we used to cut a square of her knees off one side of the box, and then very carefully cut along the sides and bottom of the box she is holding on the other side, so that you could flap it up, and glue the knees on the inside so they showed through the flap when you raised it. Okay, so I've been perverted since childhood. My favorite jokes are STILL the "Mommy! Mommy!" jokes!

Angie, I work in ICU. So most of my patients aren't awake enough to appreciate that kind of stuff. But for those that are, I've found that laughter is indeed the best medicine!

gaigai 05-29-2009 07:19 AM

Woops, obviously I messed up the quote part. I guess it's time to go to bed. I'll check back with you guys this afternoon. I can't WAIT to see what's said in the meantime.

Collettakay, I know that you are on your way to the grocery store! Heehee.

Wait, it can be fun. The other night I showed a couple of my co-workers "The Straw Trick". This is a GREAT trick, and will make you an immediate favorite with small children of the male persuasion, about 5-12 years of age.

Take one Bendy Straw. Must be bendy. Put the end of the straw in your armpit, a little past center, not too far or close to the back of your arm. Hold your arm down, but not tight. Now blow on the straw. Instant entertainment. I became my 7 year-old nephew's favorite aunt over this one (The mother of two boys that age showed it to me--yes, another nurse). Of course, my sister, and the nuns at his school were less than thrilled, but, hey, what are aunts for?!

beachlady 05-29-2009 07:47 AM

We used to do that with the Land of Lakes lady too!

I can see where mothers cringe as they see you coming, with a smile on your beautiful face. All that friendly, and the nurse is DEMENTED! <g>
I think you are a good candidate for some slab work, since NOTHING clears the brain like some good hard work and fresh air <g>.
I just cannot tell you how the thought with an ICU with you as a nurse makes me determine to move my fine figure of a woman I have become and dwindle her a bit! ROFLOL ...

omak 05-29-2009 08:55 AM

P. S. What are we going to do for the "winner(?)" of this fine contest?
ANd, where is the woman who started all of this ... I notice she is strangely silent <g>

I know! She is plotting her next thought-provoking input. I can feel it in my old bones ... any moment now ....
