I used to use 2 1/2 then tried 2 1/4 and it makes for a neater binding for me
|
Do you use double or single fold? It makes a difference...

Just wondering what width of binding strips you cut. I used to use 2 1/2. then for years used 2" and just yesterday learned that I can do 1 7/8" and it turns out perfectly on both the front and back. I am interested in what size works best for you
|
I use 2 1/2"
|
I also used 2 1/2", but now I am sewing from the back and using that wonderful s in d foot on my Horizon and sewing down from the front. Really nice miters with 2 1/4".

I cut mine 2 1/4. At the end of the day you need to look at how thick your batt is. and adjust accordingly
|
2 1/2" for me, too.
|
I am trying different batting out and with the different batting I have found I need different sizes to accommodate the batting differences. That being said I actually like thicker binding so usually use a 3/8" - 1/4" seam for my binding...

I haven't bound a quilt in a while but when I do, I go to my Fons and Porter book and follow those instructions. Love their instructions for the joining but it is tricky so I look it up every time.

I sew at 1/4" and use 2 5/8" binding. Then I do not struggle covering the stitch line on the back.

I used to cut mine at 2.5" but everytime I would have a few missed spots on the back.
I sew to the front turn and SID on front. T4 for my last quilt I cut the binding at 2 5/8" and I'm pleased to say that I didn't miss any at the back. I can also say I made a perfect (to me) binding with perfect miters.:):D:p:cool: |
