Baby Lock Espire, Pfaff 7550 for backup, Pfaff Grandquilter for the frame. What I would love to have is a Baby Lock with a built-in walking foot and a mid-arm quilting machine like the HQ16. Then I sing "Dream a little dream...."

BettyGee 10-26-2011 04:08 PM

I have a Pfaff Varimatic 6085 and by changing the feet I can do just about anything I ask of it. What would I like? The Pfaff Expression 4.0. I'd love to have another basic machine so I don't have to switch out feet so often, but I also like to buy fabric.

kacklebird 10-26-2011 05:36 PM

Sally,
I too loved my Designer 1. My mom has one :)

hopingtobegood 10-26-2011 05:43 PM

I love the Brother machines, they do for a very small price almost as well as the fancy, expensive ones, I have a SQ9000 which is my steady work horse and then bought a QC1000 Brother from someone on the board and she, the LQS lady and a friend can thread it properly and it works great, has a nice wide harp....does anyone on the board have one, I really need a lesson the threading it properly and everyone who has helped has been able to thread it properly, but i am really haveing a SENIOR HOUR, not minute....HELP...but it is me, not the machine at all...would truly recommend the Brother for cost, attachments, quality anbd durability...many of their attachments (different feet are standard, not extra cost()..

conniescretions 10-26-2011 05:47 PM

I have a Juki, Janome 9000,New home serger, Ruffler, Happy 12 needle embroidery machine & a Fusion long arm. I believe I have what I need . It took awhile to get what I wanted. Still paying on the long arm.

Sherryquilts 10-26-2011 06:02 PM

I have:

Bernina 830 - my first machine purchased in 1977
Bernina 160
Bernina 440QE with stitch regulator- love it
Singer serger
Baby loc serger that died
White treadle that lives at my Mom's house

Patches1900 10-26-2011 06:11 PM

Have a 37 yr old Kenmore that I once sewed clothes with and is now my backup machine. Taught myself some 9 years ago to FMQ on my MIL's (then) 20 year old Viking. About 6 years ago I "splurged" on a computerized Viking Platinum 750 for about 1K at end of model year sale and about 300 for accessory package w/ extension table, extra feet, etc. Use it for everything - curtains, occasional clothing, repairs and of course, quilting! My DH custom built my sewing table around it. Used to think I would someday get a machine with stitch regulator but now think not due to mixed reviews on them and also, many of the "pros" don't use them. Check out Leah Day's work on Daystyle Quilting site - she rocks!

Donna in Mo 10-26-2011 06:32 PM

I have a Pfaff Creative 2144/2170. Love it! I have made many quilts for family and friends.

I have a Singer, a White, a Simplicity, and a Crofton. I also have a Babylock and a Kenmore serger.

I would love to have a Bernina.

mojo11 10-26-2011 06:40 PM

I have and use a Bernina 1230. Old but still a great machine.

shelrox 10-26-2011 06:42 PM

I forgot the newest little gem I picked up thanx to DH, he found it and said hey for $9.98 buy it. It is a Electro Hygeine, about the size of a featherweight 221 and I though tit was at first from across the store it was in. Cant find info on it to date it but guessing early 50's or maybe even older for it even takes shuttles.

so-sew 10-26-2011 07:33 PM

I'm debating whether to answer this question or not....sometimes it's a little embarrassing to admit I have a sewing machine addiction. I LOVE all the good ones past and present....Bernina 820 (8 Series-still wondering if I deserve this beauty), Bernina 150QE, Bernina 1031 (a mechanical), Bernina 240 (just bought it today! :) ), Singer 301, Singer Fiddle 66 dating back to the 1800s, and Singer Red Eye. I'm going to probably list the Bernina 150QE for sale here on the board....after all, how many machines can a girl use? I said "use", not "love". Sometimes it's hard to separate the two.

kerrytaylor 10-26-2011 07:51 PM

I also have a brother HS2000, I think the harp is 5 3/4". I just finished piecing and SID a queen size quilt with it. Oops! I also just purchased a white from the70's which I am currently researching to find out if I can fmq with it. Got it at local Goodwill for $30, it runs great! The harp is a tiny bit bigger at 7 1/2". Does anyone know, is the store lady right in that we are overworking our fw Brothers?

SEW 10-26-2011 08:01 PM

I have 3. A featherweight I take for all my classes, A Singer 201 for free motion quilting and a Janome that I use for everything else!

carlene 10-26-2011 09:11 PM

Mltquilt I'm interested in Bernina same as cash financing. Would you please send any info you have regarding it. Thanks, Carlene

I have a Viking 6460, my first really good machine, currently not working, but I love it!!!! The machine I sew on currently is a Viking Emerald 203 Quilting edition. I really like this machine, although I haven't completely mastered it yet. I would still like to acquire a longarm, but I have no space for one, and a treadle, which are few & far between in my neck of the woods!!!!

janjanq 10-27-2011 02:49 AM

I have a Babylock Ellegante. I love it. I had always wanted a sewing/embroidery machine with all the bells and whistles. My husband died at the age of 54, 3 months after being diagnosed with cancer in 2007. A few months later I bought the machine for %5200 with some of the life insurance money. Having something to absorb myself into really helped me through my grief. My interest in quilting was re-ignited and learning the embroidery has given me some joy through a difficult time.

If you want help with your 6460, there is an on-line group that deals with only vintage vikings.

joycet 10-27-2011 06:37 AM

I have quite a collection of machines. I have a Singer 221, 301, 201 treadle, 15, 99, 5258, Elna Grasshopper, Elna something..bought it at a yardsale for $12, Babylock Quilter's Edition, and Brother 8500 and no I don't have the one I want. I have a Bernina 1530, bought before I got into quilting and bought for making clothes. It does a great job on the quilting also. Then I have a Brothers, SQ9000, I take this to classes. It is a whole lot lighter than my Bernina.

I have what I like.

Yes, if I want one I will go get it. Children might think I am stupid be it is for me. Now a long arm is way out of reach right now..

I have a Bernina 1130 that I love and hope it lasts forever. I also have a Babylock Imagine serger and a Singer Featherweight that I take to retreats and classes. My Fun Quilter midarm is a good beginner machine, but I would love to have an Avante or an Innova with all the bells and whistles sometime in the future.

SuzieQuilts 10-27-2011 06:49 PM

I bought my first Bernina 930 25 years ago for $1,000
My husband gave me myBernina 440 for x-mas 5 years ago.
I inherited my mom's Bernina 430.
I just ordered a Bernina 820.
I am happy. I believe in getting what you will use, and one that will allow you to develop your skills. I will never sell my 930, and hope to gift the two 400's someday to my daughter's when they have sewn enough to appreciate the machine. I have paid for my 930 many times over.

soleegirl 10-27-2011 08:37 PM

I bought a Bernina 440 QE with the Embroidery module 2years ago. Last week I bought the 820 QE. Both are the BEST investments ever made....I can embroidery on the 440 while quilting on the 820. I am one happy lady..

I have owned lots of brands of sm. Loved some, not others. The absolutely best bang for your buck is the Juki's. I have the 98 which is a straight stitch, and the F-600 has all the bells and whistles. I can't say enough about these machines. Strong, strong motors. I can actually start sewing at the edge of the fabric and it does not pound it down the hole and make a knot. It does it all for lots less than the big names. I sold my Quest plus after I bought my f-600. Didn't think that would happen. I sew quilted fabric for purses and in the straps you have lots of fabric when you count front, back & batting is one side. Make a seam and it gets thick, make a strap and it is 12 layers. This is the only machine that will sew the seam and hold it together. My big names would do a pitiful job.
F-600 is $1,000 or a little more.
