I use neutrals, beige, white and white for piecing and I buy it on cones because it is more cost effective. I watch for sales and buy a lot. I especially like Superior threads. I like Aurifil but do not really prefer it over othes-so if it is on sale, I buy it. Otherwise, I buy something that is on sale. I avoid 'cheap' thread. Those are the ones that, when you hold up a section of it, is not smooth and even. When I quilt, I use King Tut (mostly) and I buy it in cones.

Also, when piecing, do you match the fabrics or use a neutral, so you don't have to keep changing thread? Which colors do you find are the best to keep on hand?

Thanks

I use Connecting Thread brand. It has a little lint but for the price and selection it is great. They are having a sale of 30% off their threads. On quilts I use a single natural color.

It really depends on where you live. Around here, its about 10 a spool but other places its higher or lower. You really just have to check around. But you are using my favorite thread for quilting. Its strong and low lint. Since its only 2 ply your seams will be more accurate which really count if you are doing blocks with lots of seams in them.

I buy the large spools for piecing, ivory, neutral, off white or cream. I really hate piecing with dark colors but will use black when sewing on black.

I buy most of my piecing thread from Bluprint/Craftsy. I get free shipping and always a discount since I'm a member. The savings on products pay for the membership fee and then some. I buy specialty thread from Superior Thread and like Glide thread for quilting.

I also use Connecting Threads spools--lovely color selection.

Another vote for Connecting Threads Essential Thread. It's 50wt, 1,200 yard spools. The sale on their thread is on now. 30% off. The price goes down from $3.49 to $2.44 a spool and the color selection is great.

I like Quilt in a day or Jo Ann's sales. They ship to me and I don't have to go anywhere. I sew with Bernina sewing machines with light thread usually with what ever is on sale. ;Twenty five to fifty percent off is when I buy on line. I have lots in stock on my sewing shelf right now. Best sales come when I don't have the money or I am well stocked! LOL!

I hit the estate sales that advertise sewing stuff. I piece with just about any lighter color I can get, it never shows when piecing..once in a while on ebay you can buy a box of thread cheaply, but I usually like to see it before I buy it.

I purchase most of my thread from Wawak.com its Gutterman and I also get needles, zippers, and pins. you can't beat there prices. I am luck enough to go to their warehouse so do not have to pay postage. They do have other sewing supplies.
