pinkcastle I had this problem, on gentle my washer does a mild spin and that leaves a lot of water in my stuff. at the end of the load what i do now is set my washer to maxamum spin and do a spin cycle only. it does not hurt the quilt and does get all the extra water out. O open the washer and fluf the quilt so it is not stuck to the side of the washer drum before you to the final spin. Good luck happy quilting yippie
I wash my quilts on the gentle cycle with cold water in a front loader. When I go to put them in the dryer they are sopping wet. I've tried putting them through another spin cycle, but that doesn't seem to do much good. I end up squeezing as much water out as I can before putting it into the dryer. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Thanks in advance for your much appreciated advice.

Front loaders DO sense when a load is unbalanced. Mine will spin, but at a reduced speed when most of the load is toward one side. It tries to increase the speed after a minute or two, but if still not balanced it will reduce the speed, so less water is forced out.

Success! I washed a small baby quilt with some sheets on a normal wash cycle and when I opened the door it was not a soggy mess! Even the marking lines came out just fine - I used a Fons and Porter washable graphite pencil - first time trying it out after testing, of course! So thanks everyone for telling me it can be done!
