I have done a red, white and black one for a SIL that I put a small black/white print on the back, and then in an offset area away from the label I placed a 2'x2' larger block mimicking a small one from the front and also used the same fabrics from the front. She loved it!

I've seen some cute black and white prints that would make a nice backing then you could quilt either with white or with red. I agree, red is sometimes hard to match.

Sometimes I match the backing to thread color for quilting I use. Other times, I want the quilting to show more on the back, so I will choose accordingly :D:D:D

I think a red and black print would be nice.

When shopping online look for sales clearances.
I buy alot of backing fabric this way for as cheap as 2.99 a yard. After awhile you will find that you have enough stash to match most of your quilt tops.
My favorite colors are greens and reds so I look for those the most. Neutral colors are so much nicer than muslin.
