I have done both pieced backs and a few whole cloth wide backs, and I have to say when it comes to quilting (on a DSM), the fewer seams on the back the better. Besides the added thickness where front seams cross back seams, having a lot of seams adds weight and drag to the quilt and they can hang up when they cross the edge of your table.

I watched a video on youtube (wish I could remember the name)...but the woman used 1/2" seams to piece her backing. Her theory was that the wider seam had less chance of rolling, and made a much easier transition when quilting the quilt. I tried it, and liked it very much. Instead of being able to feel the "bump"...you can barely notice at all when quilting it, and when done.

Thanks for all your ideas and help, I am still working on the back and once it is done I will post pictures. I think I just make it harder than it really is.
Thank You again, have a Great week.
