I do now. I did not when I first started out in 1992. I so wish that I had. There are more that do have labels than not, but I think about the others sometimes. Years from now, no one will know who made them.
I cut pieces of a certain fabric. It is off white with a little tan scroll print. They are 6 x 8 inches before sewing. I write the information on them and press to set the ink.

I have attached a label to every quilt that I have given as a gift. The ones around the house that I have kept and the ones that I have donated have not gotten labels. I should label the ones I have kept....
I used to use a square of Muslin that I would write on with a Pigma pen and then sew on the back.
Not I use my embroidery machine and embroider on a piece of light colored fabric, incorporate is into a leftover block or some of the matching scraps and then sew on back.

I have never added a labell, but I intend to from now on. At first I just wasn't Proud of the quilt....then I learned that they were'nt actually all that bad and no ones first quilt is gorgeous...we'll....I've seen some that are. Anyway I have pics of quilts I have made and can't remember who I gave them too! Didn't even write on the back of the photo, duh! People that I give them to as gifts are always saying I should label them! Loved all the info you talented ladies gave!

I add my label to the backing fabric before I send it out to my longarm quilter. If it is a machine embroidered quilt, I will embroider an extra block allowing extra room for information I will want to add. (After the baby is born I would add the babies name, date of birth.) If I can I will embroider this information when I make the label. If it is a pieced quilt top, I sometimes make an extra block if there is room to add the information, but sometimes I will add an embroidered block to these quilts as well.

I always try to add a label, now that i have an embroidery machine i embroider it and add it to the back with a smaller block that i use on the front of the quilt then quilt after it is pieced together onto the backing.
