Default Quilting from the backside

I want to follow the pattern on the backing of my quilt using my Janome 6500. Is there anything special I need to do for this? I thought I had read something about reverse side quilting on the board, but can't find it now.

Great idea. Somewhere I have a book all about quilting using the backing fabric as your quilting design.

All you have to remember is to put the correct thread in the bobbin because that will show on the front of your quilt. It is a great way to do an overall pattern.

The only difficulty I have had is getting the tensions correct so the reverse side which will be the top will have good even stitches.

So long as your machine produces nice stitches on the bottom as well as the top, not a problem. Nothing special is needed. I could never have done that with my Brother, but can with the Bernina and BSR.

When I took my FMQ class we were taught on both sides of the quilt. Our teacher explained that sometimes the backing fabric was a great way to quilt by following the lines on a print background. We each had a sample sandwich with a floral print on it and we quilted around the flowers on the print. Worked great. I suggest using a sample sandwich first to see if it works for you.

Yes, practice for this is sooooo important! Make yourself a sandwich that is exactly the same as the quilt and then sew straight lines, circles, loopty loops, sew fast, sew slowly and really check the tension and stitches for everything you do. Write down the best tension you find on a piece of tape and stick it to your machine so you won't forget what it is if for any reason you have to break down what you're quilting in order to sew something else. This is an awesome way to quilt if you have great fabric for the backing. And so easy!!!! Have fun!
