I get American Patchwork and Quilting, and want to make something new from each copy that arrives. But I am sure it would be the same if I got 10.

I should really stop getting so many magazines -- but I just love cruising through them. A year ago I had a long talk with myself and told myself to clean house -- the bookshelves were groaning and needed some help. I listened, went through all the magazines, keeping only 2 years worth and extracting articles and patterns that I liked from the others. Those articles that I removed I put in plastic sleeves. After sorting they went into notebooks. I promised myself I would do this each year, going through the oldest year. Now, instead of a full bookcase of magazines, I have notebooks on one shelf and magazines on another, books on another. . . oh, my.

I started with Quilting Newsletter sometime in the '70s. Decided I didn't like that one because while it had articles, it was loaded with events so in a year's time it wasn't pertinent. Kept quilting but didn't subscribe to anything for another 30 years. Dropped Fons and Porter this last year, just fell out of love with their patterns. Currently I get:
American Patchwork and Quilting -- like it, usually find something interesting
American Quilter -- the magazine that offers a challenge
Quilt -- very usable, good patterns, good directions
The Quilter Magazine --another of my favorites
Quilt World -- love the access to the online editions, am considering this might be a more convenient way to subscribe to any magazine. Well, good as long as the computer works!
Quiltmaker -- lovely designs, had this script for a long time
McCalls -- One of the first script when I got back to quilting more. I used to watch their magazine for quilt patterns, even saved one from 1976 for a bicentennial quilt.

I guess I should add, that I'm working on a project teaching less fortunate folks to quilt. Figure if someone can learn a new skill (sewing) and make something that s/he can use or donate, that person will feel better about themselves. So, some of my quest for ideas is for this project -- and I have many folks who now take my cast off magazines. I'm also collecting used machines and rehabbing them for this project so I'm learning a new skill too.

I have been buying Fons and Porter for a long time. I subscribed to it back in March, paid for it and have yet to receive an issue..I have called several times and they tell me it is straightened out and I will get the next issue. Well here it is June and I still have not gotten an issue....I am trying to reach them by phone as I am looking at this website. I will probably think twice before subscribing to it again..It is easier buying it from Sams Club....You get a
30% discount on all magazines..

I subscribe to several magazines but Quilt World is really my favorite.

I've been collecting Quilting Arts on Ebay and buying them in shops...but finally have a subscription to Quilting Arts. I love it!

I think Quilt is great for a beginning quilter and then maybe McCall's or Fons and Porter but probably not for your first couple of quilts.

If there is a magazine called Art Quilt, then I need to check it out! Thanks!

By the way, I am tempted to subscribe. Did you subcribe with Interweave directly? Did they send you lost of mailers? I emailed them and couldn't get a direct reply. I live outside US right now, and use a mail forwarding service that charges by the gram. I hate to pay for advertisements:C

I've let all of my subscriptions run out. I can find all I can look at and certainly, sew on the internet.

I received most of them in the mail until it "hit me" that they are all about the same. I still receive McCalls, Quilters Newsletter (i love) and quilt world. I haven't found any patterns or ideas from them in a long time. Several years ago there were awesome quilts and pattern with new ideas. Not any more for me.

I have decided to quit getting quilt magazines as I am so back logged with them now but my favorite has been American Patchwork and Quilting because I like traditional quilts. I noticed the last APQ I got had some "modern" prints in their quilts and it is just not me. I have been quilting off and on since 1991 so I have a big stash of magazines and books and fabric. I have to say to my self "stop"!!
