Default Quiltmaking chores I would cheerfully never do again.....

When I first began quiltmaking, I loved cutting. I had been sewing for donkey's years, but it was mostly clothesmaking, and I had never used a rotary cutter. So I enjoyed the preciseness of it. And, I think, it delayed the actual sewing of a block, which I was apprehensive about.

Now, some years later, I almost hate cutting. It bores me and sometimes frustrates me. What I want now is to get to the sewing.

And to add to the title of this thread, here are other things I'd cheerfully never do again while quiltmaking:

    1. Square up blocks .... ugh!

    2. Make the quilt sandwich. I hate this part.

    3. Decide upon, measure, and sew borders....mainly because it's boring.

    4. Clean up my mess after all is done.

Oddly, I don't mind the binding, which some people hate.

So, what are your "I'd never do it again if I had a choice" quiltmaking chores?

For me it is the actual quilting of it - only because I am not that good at it and cannot afford $300.00 for a LA'er to do it.

I enjoy all stages of quilt making. I would be trilled if all my finished projects looks as good as what I envision I my head. Not there yet but hope springs eternal.

For me, being new & not at quilt stage yet simply practicing, it is trying to piece everything accurately, and line things up...apparently I'm not a natural. I'm thinking basting might be my friend. I am anxious to get on with the assembly of an entire top design.
Recently I 'chain pieced' some different stacks (on the same thread) & that is a new thing for me. woo hoo.

Making the sandwich, even with spray basting. But I like to bind.

I don't care for the squaring up either but it sure makes a difference. I don't like the sandwiching much. I don't mind the cutting or binding at all. I also like to make the label. Nothing fancy. I just started to FMQ and not so good at it but it beats paying so much for the quilting.

I too don't like basting the sandwich. Really hate it! Most of the other stuff I don't mind too much. Not too crazy about hand sewing the binding down but I recently saw a tutorial on how to make a binding with a flange then machine sewing it on both front and back and I hope to try this next time. Liked the look and the lack of hand sewing. My fingers really get locked up sometimes when I am holding the binding down for hand sewing even when I use clips. Guess I hold it to tightly.

It all depends on what I'm having the most trouble with for a particular quilt. I have severe RA in my hands and depending on how much they're hurting, sometimes it's harder to cut, other times to piece and other times to quilt. I sure wish it was consistent; then I could ask my DD to help--never know what's going to act up when I start a quilt.
