Which Scissors are best?
#21
I have several pair of Ginghers (gifts) and they are very good scissors but too heavy for me. I don't need big scissors for 95% of my quilting so the smaller Clover scissors are perfect. I like Mondial scissors. I really think I have every brand! Kai, Singer, Gingher, Clover, Fiskars, Fons and Porter, Mondial, Fanmore, EZ, Hertiage Cutlery, and some with no brand name. When in doubt get MOM some scissors for her Christmas stocking, seems to be the motto around here.

I LOVE my Ginghers. I bought my big ones at Hancocks on a half off sale. The little bird looking pair came in a box of sewing things I bought on an auction for $2 !!! Boy was I thrilled at that find. DD and DH know that they don't touch them under any circumstances.

Years ago (starting early 1960s) I had a pair of Singer brand scissors that were good until they got lost in one of our moves back in the late 70s early 80s. Never had them sharpened at all.
Do they still even do scissors?
The ones I like now are the gray handled Fiskars razor edge scissors. Only problem I have with them is people running off with them and not returning them and I can't get anybody to 'fessup'!

I got a set of Ginghers years ago and they came with a whetstone which is great for touching up the knife edge. I don't think you would ever need to have them sharpened.
My set came with the 8" shears, 4" and the small embroidery scissors. I love the 4" so much I bought another pair recently and I keep one pair by the machine and the other on the ironing board. I think you would love them, but definitely try the different sizes before you buy. :D

My favorites are my sharp pointed Singer scissors....dropped them once and tried to catch them and speared my finger right on the knuckle.....won't do that again....and my bigger Westcot scissors.
