Anytime I use glue, the quilt is washed before it is given to the recipient. Glue attracts bugs.

no--with long arm customer quilts figure they are quilters and can make that decision on their own quilt. For customers that I make t-shirt or memory quilts for, I generally do not wash (I do ask that the clothing is washed before it's given to me) and only give them care instructions (along with suggestions on marking label with Pigma pen on the label I attach). I do always wash my backing as I don't want it being the cause for undue shrinking (assuming the top fabrics have already been washed)

I always wash the quilts I make as soon as they're done to make sure I'm happy with how they look. Especially if I'm using red fabric to ensure it didn't bleed in the wash.

I never wash the quilt. Not once. I've given away about 50 now and figure they can wash them. All my quilts are large and my washer isn't that big. I always tell them about the wrinkling and give them a Color Catcher if I think it needs one. I think all the people I give quilts to wash the heck out of them. Way too much washing.

No, don't wash quilts very often - that's what I use sheets for. Wash sheets weekly, not quilts.

I don't wash them because I always think that the recipient will think it's a used quilt. Does anyone else think that?

I don't wash customers quilts and I don't wash quilts I make and give to family. My quilting space/room is clean it is also smoke and pet free and the quilts are never on the floor. The room that I quilt in is far away from the kitchen as to not get any cooking smells.

The customers that I quilt for are long time quilt makers so they know that most of us longarmers around here to do wash the quilts for them and they already know what a quilt looks like after it is washed.

I feel the same way. All of my NICU quilts have prewashed fabric, and I don't use any spray starch or basting spray. I do like the crisp look of the finished quilt. As for the large ones, I agree that quilts can be washed way too much. I suggest that they are washed in cold water, gentle cycle and low, tumble or line dry. I have made and given many many quilts and have not had any issues.
