no curves, and i don't really have an explanation for the bias binding aside from having always done them that way.

i think in the mists of time i read that bias binding wears longer because the threads in the fabric don't ...um ...well....wear out as quickly.

    geeze. that's weak eh?

i need to measure again and see how it all looks. thanks again for all your good thoughts and helpful ideas

this place...man...am i glad i found this place

I don't use bias binding unless it's curvy and have no problems with wearing.

I often will insert a piece from the quilt into the binding or make completely scrappy bindings. I love them and they are certainly original.

i think you will find you will have more than enough fabric, if you do not bias cut, and perhaps discover that you really do not have to....just french fold your binding....and you will be golden

I recently did my first scrappy binding....14 inch sections of the fabric in the quilt. I ended up really liking it. Let me attach a picture, in case that helps. I have to tell you, I did not think I liked scrappy bindings and would never had done one if I had enough fabric of all one design.

Don't think the bias binding takes less anyway. Have you done a 2 color binding? Only takes 1" for the front and 1.5" for the back piece.

You can get enough 2.5" wide strips (10) for straight grain binding for a queen quilt from about 3/4 yard of fabric.
