are you guys sure your families haven't dosed them with something so you'll quilt less and spend more time waiting on them hand and foot?

YOU may have a point there, gf!!! However, Roy can't do that anymore and I've always done the smell test on any I've bought since then. You know the old 'burned once twice shy'? Gotta protect my sinuses and my headaches so I can quilt more!

The dreaded Fiskars mat, no doubt. I bought one and it smelled like a mix of burned tires and cleaning supplies. It was absolutely noxious. I tried vinegar. I tried Febreeze. I put it out on the patio. I finally gave up and took it back for an exchange.

New mat, no problems.

They're made from petroleum products, and sometimes I think they put bottom of the batch items on the shelves that they shouldn't.

Wow,
I know I have at least 4 cutting mats.
Fiskars (my preference) an Olfa (hate it) and one on my Alto Quilt cut system...
I don't have any smells...
I must be lucky, cuz I cannot stand any type of smell like rubber or whatever!
Yuck!
Good luck...

I would fill the sink up with some lemon dish soap and warm water, and let it soak for a little while, and then rinse it off good, maybe that will help

I've never had a smelly mat, but before I buy a new one, I'll make sure I smell it first. LOL
