I told her to go through the 25 tubs of fabric I have and pick what she wanted to use. If she picked something I didn't want to share I would let her know. She found everything she needed except the backing and we started the ironing and cutting process. She took to it great, she wasn't afraid of the rotary cutter, but she was very careful and paid attention. We cut 288 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangles of the assorted color fabrics and the 96 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle and 288 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares of the tan fabric. We went over the directions and I sent her home to play. She'll be back to visit in two weeks I can't wait to see how she does.
Just wanted to share.

"nice fabric, are you a quilter?" "I will show you my stash if you show me yours". It just seemed a lil creepy for me, so I will sew alone for now.
Hi mygirl66, have you joined a quilt guild? that is a great place to meet quilters. Not all of them will be your cup of tea but the way i got to be friends with other quilters was I chaired a committee and these 5 other ladies volunteered to help me , they had never had that many volunteer at one time for just one committee. Anyway it turned out we all get along so well we started a mini group on a different night so we can get together and share, our guild is more a business meeting, our mini group is more learning and sharing. I had belonged to this guild for years on and off and heading a committee is what made the difference. I volunteered to chair another committee(our raffle quilt) and the same ladies are on that with me too. We go places together and enjoy each other company, it is great to share your love of quilting with others. Our oldest gal is 71 and our youngest is 43.
Also, local quilt stores are good. even if you have to drive a ways to get to one, they may know of other quilters in your area that shop at their store. When I first moved here that is how I found my quilt guild.
Another idea is go to the county fair and see if there are any quilts on display. sometimes there are quilters sitting and demonstrating, we have gotten several new members to our guild by doing this.
I will keep you in my thoughts hoping you will meet some wonderful quilters.
take care

My son's girlfriend came to me to help her make a pillow for her sister, she made a cute owl pillow. The owl was made from felt. I've tried since to get her into other projects, but she always says she's too busy. I really enjoy her, though, maybe some day. She is an artist when she cooks, and we are always sharing recipes. She'll come to me and ask for specific recipes that my son has mentioned. And after Christmas dinner she always asks when they can come back for turkey carcus soup and dumplings. She had never had it before.

When my youngest son started dating his now wife she was here one weekend when we were having a girls quilting day. (myself, 2 daughters and daughter in law) One of the girls said you can come and join us or just sit there and watch but we would love you to join us. She did and now makes quilts for their 2 boys. I am so lucky that all my girls quilts plus the 6 and 8 year old love to quilt also. Mary is only 2 so we don't know if she likes it yet or not. In fact the 8 year old asked for a quilting kit for her birthday from Grandma so I made her a kit with some Pieces Hexagons shapes, think 11/2", some 3 " squares of fabric, pins, pin cushion, needle threaderss etc and she was just so happy. She likes to try the hexagons when I am making mine.

Good for you! I often wished I would meet up with someone like you when I started! I completey taught myself from books from the library and a few magazines! I learned most things the hard way, which I guess can be good....lol

Awesome!! :) That is so exciting. My son has taken an interest in quilting so I am now teaching him the beginning things. I do the cutting though as he is just turned 8 and I dont trust him with a rotary just yet but he tells me how he wants it cut and mostly just plays with my scraps thus far :) It is exciting to have someone to pass this on to. It is a dying art and makes me happy to know there are new people out there who still want to learn! :D :D Congrats!
