The link above shows a quilt (post #897) I did this baby quilt with strings of various widths. My constant was the white down the center of each block. I think it was probably 2.0 or 2.25. I simply chose a focus fabric and chose colors from that palette to drive my scrap color choices.

My string quilts are pretty much anything goes (unless I'm aiming for a specific look). By the time you finish, there are so many fabrics that the overall appearance is good. I'm often contrary--I'll put fabrics that really don't go together side by side just because I can!
I do try to include lights and darks in each block for contrast, and I vary widths to avoid having to match seams. String blocks are my favorite thing to sew--enjoy.

I have made several and use various colors that wouldn't seem to go together, I used strip widths of 2.5 inch to 1 inch. I have one on my couch now and eager to do another one. I gave one made from all Christmas prints to friends for Christmas. I try to calm down any "too busy" feel with a calming back fabric. I love strip quilts, but these are my favorites.

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Violet, Blue. I worked in a job that required me to decipher and 'speak' in acronyms. After 20 years, it became an innate (but acquired) ability. Just don't ask me to do any algebra.
