Default Stuck in the middle

I finally started this quilt after several years of staring at the pattern. I wanted to duplicate (as close as possible) this quilt. I've pieced a little of it and don't think the fabrics are going to work. I was unable to find the shirting fabric with red to tie everything together. I just went with white on white, thinking it would work.

I need suggestions. Should I just enlarge the top and eliminate the border? (I have enough fabric left over to make it bigger.) Go find another red for the binding? Choose another color for the border?

It just doesn't look right and I can't figure out what will make it more cohesive. I've been staring at it all day and it doesn't change.

I think if you did a skinny yellow inner border and the wider red border it would pull it together. Mitering the corners would help, too.

I like it.

Super cute top! Looks like 30s fabric that your using? Perhaps use a soft green, lilac or baby blue for the border. The red is lovely but just not as a border on this quilt, or perhaps as a small inner border but not as the main border. I can’t wait to see it when it’s all done!

I think the red border is fine, but I would make the quilt bigger too.

The end of this thread was lost while they were working on the site. I am going to take out the red and do something else.

The more I look at your picture I see that it is not sewn onto the white background as of yet. IMHO I think a black background would make those colors just pop!

The body of the quilt is finished. Since this one didn't go as planned, I'm ambivalent about the borders. I've decided on a piano key border, but haven't decided on what color "stop" border and how wide it should be. The squares are 5" finished. What do you suggest on how wide the piano key border should be. How would you do the corners of the piano key border?

Thanks for the input.
