probably purple...it's not a 'bad' color, i just really have a heck of a time working with it. i have made a couple quilts with some (as in little itty bitty bits) included. i have made one queen quilt that is an IRIS bouquet...and the quilt body is lots of lavenders & purples...it is probably the prettiest quilt i have ever made...as in when you see it it's just plain pretty! but it was a bugger to work on. my dd has requested a new quilt with dark greens and deep purples...boy, it's been 6 months since she brought this up...telling me no rush, Christmas or my birthday in march....but boy...i don't seem to be able to get my mind around this ... maybe after i catch up a little bit and can actually think about it...but
i also seem to have a bit of a problem with yellows...
i try to force myself to use lots of color

I pretty much love all colors. When I asked my DH's niece what her favorite color was so I could make her a graduation present, her answer was black and orange. I was horrified. How could I make a black and orange quilt with out screaming holloween? I choose my fabrics very carefully and it turned out well. She loved it. Hope I never have to use those colors again tho!

For me it's aqua. I really don't like anything done in that color--houses, cars, walls. It reminds me of the locker room at the swimming pool when I was growing up. This is just my personal taste so I hope I'm not offending anyone. Several have mentioned colors I love to work with but I'm not taking it personally. :)

I was never fond of browns, beige and "neutral" colors (probably because I think they're boring and they are used everywhere to not "offend" anyone when trying to sell a house). However, I was forced to use them in some round robins, and I rather like them now. There are colors I don't work with much or at all as dominant colors in a quilt, but I can and have worked with all the colors of the rainbow and the mud and rocks, and I'm OK with that.
The quilt tells me what color it wants to be. It's not like painting a room or something.

brown and beige. beige is dirty white to my eyes. brown is just dirt.
and mustard, known as diaper-full yellow (for lack of a better description) in my house. (sorry if you like that color).
so how come when i see an earthtone quilt here, it looks good?
