This is not an ugly quilt. IMHO ,I would make one more border using the teal ,gold and purple. Maybe piano key or a border with cornerstones, solid or pieced( like a pinwheel). Can't wait to see it quilted.

Great looking quilt and I think the border is perfect - it picks up the koi colours perfectly.

Once you do some quilting on it, it shall be really cool and even now it is not even close to 'ulgy'.

I'm not a fan of your quilt. LOL. I do like the colors of the fish block. I think the choice of setting fabric and border should be more Japanese flavor.

I think it will be great once you add more to it. There are ugly quilts, I have one.

I like it too mostly. I think that the large ivory triangles are perfect for some intricate quilting in a varigated blue thread.

The sashing is the part that feels "wrong" to me. There is too much grey in the sashing's blue to me to go with the pure colours in the centre square. Changing just that out to a more bright pure blue or turquoise feels like a better fit to me. I say the blue simply because it has a more watery feel to me which the centre piece has. I like the orientation of the centre though since to me it feels like you are looking down into a pond of koi.

I like the purple where it is and would leave it but say more pure blues because I would like more watery feel to it for the rest.

But it is not an ugly quilt to me for sure!
