I don't think it's ugly. Personally, I would use the plain off setting triangles as opportunities to have more fun with FMQ, but that's just me, I guess.

This quilt is not ugly. It sure would look good with some appliqued long leaf water looking plants. Kind of like this in the bottom corners on the light fabric. The leaves could overlap onto the edge of the focal center square.

Noooo not ugly! I'd love a quilt like that! Reminds me of my moms koi pond!

I actually thought "purple" border, too. Then with great quilting in the blank areas will make it gorgeous!!

I agree and I would use a variegated blue thread so the quilting really stands out. I also think the outer border is fine, it's just that the white is so stark that it really makes it stand out. Once you get it quilted it will pull everything together. I think it's a great quilt.

It's a great opportunity for some beautiful quilting in the white areas. Some turquoise intricate design or even a landscape/ocean scene would be some possibilities.

    It's going to shine!

honestly, i do not think that is ugly. if you have any purple left, maybe you could add some as 1 last border to tie the center to the rest of the quilt
