Tips for Elmer's School Glue

Just today finished glue basting a quilt that is 96x96.....I don't thin the glue, or use special tips.....straight from the bottle, cap wide open......holding the bottle with both hands and bending the bottle to get more pressure.....above the quilt about 12", moving bottle back and forth to make a "grid" of lines about 2-3" apart......not an exact science, if you get a blob just smooth it out a bit with your finger, will make a hard spot when dry, but quilting through it is not a problem......I let mine air dry as I use hubby's pool table to spread it out, but ironing works too if you have the right surface.

You screw off the cap and screw on this tip. It makes a very fine line of glue and does not get clogged. Afterwards I screw the original cap back on the bottle and rinse and then soak the glue tip in a jar of water (as it is rather difficult to get all the glue out of the fine tip). I used to use just the Elmer's bottle on bindings and it worked, but I like this fine line of glue much better for bindings.

I am in the midst of hand sewing the binding to what is to be the cats quilt, also my Elmer's washable school glue experimental quilt
My learning curve here is: I may have applied just a little too thick, I have areas that are a bugger to hand sew thru.
I think I am going to like this as an alternative to pin basting.
I used as QB members suggested 12" from batting and smooth globs with a plastic type card.
Maybe the tips would be a good thing for me.
FYI: Sam's Club sells Elmer's Washable school glue by the gallon $14-16.

I've used it straight from the bottle, squeeze with both hands, 12" from quilt and fast. Also thinned it a little (maybe by one fourth) and it squeezes out easier. Works the same. Seems like you can't go wrong any way you do it.
