Two good things

ah, to go back to 8 year old granddaughters. mine are 12 and 15. they were both excited to learn to sew, quilt, knit, anything when they were 7 thru 10. now they have too many other things going on with music, school, cheer, and friends. sure do miss them little ones.
enjoy the time now. hopefully yours will continue to like sewing.

Wonderful! The last time I kept my DGDs for the day my oldest made herself pajama pants from beginning to end with Grandma just guiding. She is 13, my 10 yo DGD doesn't want anything to do with sewing.

My 10 year old GD is sitting there right now sewing some squares together, I have tried and tried to get her to sew with me to no avail, and out of the blue she got up and said "Gram, what can I sew?" So I dashed to my sewing room and found some beautiful squares for her to put together, ain't life grand when you have a child who wants to be like her grandmother.
