I decided to make a fun block instead of binding! Took me all day to work this one out. Building blocks on the diagonal is challenging, but I'm pleased with how this one turned out!

Lots of neat stuff posted this weekend. i got a fair amount of the quilting done on my May colorblock quilt. Might get it finished this week-Yay!

Monday Morning Update:

My plan WAS ......
1. Finish the rainbow quilt just need to add two more rows! Done,
2. Make at least 2 of the Harriet's Journey quilt blocks. I made 3 and cut the pieces for a fourth!.
3. Search out pieces for donation - The organization is asking for 2.5 strips and 2 yard cuts for backing for quilts. Think I can cover some of that request. Found half of a grocery bag worth of 2.5 strips and ten 2-yard cuts to donate for backing.
4. While rooting about in my stash, I need to look for backs for at least 4 of my many UFO's . No backs for my UFO's, nothing big enough or a coordinating color. But I picked out the six tops that will go with me to be layered at my next quilt retreat in June.

I look forward to seeing everyone again in June for our next productive week-end. Your accomplishments always inspire me to focus on just a few tasks and to get them done. Thank you for hosting!

Thimblebug - Curves are one of the blocks that I stay away from, they remind me too much of setting sleeves in my daughters clothes.

For me, yesterday was a bust. I was on track then DH derailed me by telling one of the couples we play cards with that sure they could stop by. That was 2:30 and I was just finishing cutting rhubarb for the freezer. I had the quilt out and was deciding on how to FM and what color of thread. Needles to say nothing happened. Did enjoy the wine and talking around our patio table then we went to their house had a combined dinner cards and hot tub. Enjoyable day but frustrating because I really wanted to sew. Do any of the other married quilters have this problem with a spouse? Since he didn't want to do what he was planning (Wood working in the garage) he altered both our plans and there was no way I could say no?

Well, yesterday was somewhat of a bust, a cutting mistake stopped me in my tracks for a while, but then after reviewing the pattern, I realized what had happened and what I thought was going to be the end of the quilt just ended up being a slight delay. Took the wind out of my sails for the better part of the afternoon but I'm back on track. I was able to get the error block taken out, so today, I'm going to get the border on. I'm feeling pretty decent, might as well take advantage of it.

Truely enjoyed my garden and got lots done. The iris are fabulous.
Didn't get any quilting accomplished.
Also, spend a wonderful day at church and visiting with a couple for lunch. What a wonderful return from Covid!

Everyone has been so busy

Thank you Thimblebug - I seem to be going through a 'cute' phase right now. Which is interesting, as I'm usually drawn to more of a traditional piecing style. Still, I'm enjoying it!!

Reindeer update: I managed to get all of the applique stitching done for the faces, the outer ears, the eyes, and the noses. I'm starting on the inner ears tonight . And I did one (very easy) SBS block to keep it inching forwards.

Although it doesn't necessarily sound like much, I am pleased with the progress since I didn't get to spend as long as I would have liked on sewing this weekend. But there's always next weekend... (and whatever I can get in between...)

What technique did you use to get the X shaped block (on the outsides of the center black square)? did you have to paper piece that?

Looks like many people were very productive this VQW whether it was sewing or gardening or cleaning. I had a much better day yesterday and feel very good this morning. What a difference 5 solid hours of sleep and some "me" time can do. Lap quilt is 2/3 finished with quilting, had to do some adjusting on the 127. I had forgot that when I cleaned it last time I didn't check the tension when I put it away. But the baby is chugging along nicely now. I just noticed it's 102nd birthday is on Sunday.

That was the most challenging part. I think paper piecing could've been easier. I used the 'peaky' and 'spikey' rulers I have. The ends are the 'peaky' part and the sides are the 'spikey' cut on a fold. I made it a little bigger then trimmed it to size.

For those who may not know the peaky and spikey are the shapes in the star points of the 54-40 or fight quilt block. Here's a reference; Quilt Block I think Fons and Porter called the shapes peaky and spikey.
