Wall Hangings

K3n,
I do have some chicky things on the shelf! Don't know why I cropped them out of the picture! I guess I did it before I realized how popular chickens were with so many on this board!
BTW, I forgot to say, it's 22 x 22".

This is only my thought and I would say make it the size you want........I've put a sleeve the whole length of the wall hanging....have also just used tabs at the top....just depends on what you want.....in other words do it your way and what suits the spot.....:-)

This is the one and only wall hanging I have done so far
It was a present for my mum, we used doweling to make it hold it's shape :D
It was about 18" x 24"...I never measured it

My wallhangings range from 24x24 to 36x36 and two rectangles because there is a rectangle in the center; one has a whimsical cartoon of an old woman quilting and the other you see to the left here, purple, has a photo of a broken dish and a whole dish (you can read about what the symbolism is all about in the Pictures section where I share this project for victims of violence to look at during the medical-forensic exam). I had no pattern so tried to make it look balanced... nobody seemed to care about that though. Anyway, I make no particular size. It depends on the pattern I used or if I created it myself... sometimes I just can't stop adding borders!
They are hung a variety of ways by me and my receivers.
On walls, they are hanging on:
...decorative quilt or curtain rods,
...simple hidden curtain rods up against the wall,
...a wooden dowel is attached to the back of one for stability
...most easily, simply put up with clear push pins straight into the wall!
Other quilts I've made are on people's:
... beds or couches,
... quilt racks, and,
... in my beautiful wooden cabinet with etched glass all around and on the domed top that lifts up. That is actually at my mom's for awhile. We took out hand-crocheted blankets and added her wedding quilt and her mom-my grandma's beautiful hand-crocheted tablecloth. She proudly displays it in plain view to enjoy and share with her same-age friends.
You can do pretty much whatever you want to do... size and hanging. There is no rule and people will love it however you do it!

My first wall hanging was a combination stamped embroidery with some machine channel quilting along the borders. Little did I know back then that the unevenly distributed weight of my stitching would cause a wavy border. I used the two sided sticky tape that I think another posted may have referred to in order to keep my borders from flapping around.
I recently decided it was time to hang something else in that space, but in taking it down noticed the sticky tape didn't want to come off. Hubby was afraid of pulling the paint off, so I called my housecleaning friend who knows all the secrets and asked her what she would recommend I use for this dilemma. She said, "Goo Gone". Folks, it worked like a charm!! You may need to apply it more than once, and let it soak in around the tape a bit, but the tape did come off cleanly, no marks and no residue from the Goo Gone - all in about 15 minutes time. My hero!

My DH just had a good (and cheap!) idea for small wall hangings!
I've got a calendar from my quilt magazine which has a pattern for a mini quilt each month - 12" x 16". I've been hanging them up the stairs by just a little loop sewn on the back. I thought this would work as they're so small and it does - until someone opens the door then they all fold in half! SO my DH had the idea of using blades for a hacksaw - 2 euros for 12! They even have a little hole in each end to stitch through!

Quiltgranny, that is a fantastic tip...I have peeled paint, before, and it's good to know the googone won't hurt it. I have some! duh. :D
K, your little quilt repertoire is awesome, I love it!
Your hubby is so considerate, to take interest in your stuff like that.
I guess mine might, if I get on the ball, and make some more stuff.
I'm working on it. :D

Thanks everyone, these are all great tips. Everyone does such beautiful work. I wish I had more time in the day to work on my stuff. I'm lucky if I can even get an hour here or an hour there.
