Hi Verna -

(strange to write that) As a child my mother knew a little girl named Verna and said if she ever had a daughter that would be her name. There used to be a shop in Lancaster PA "Verna's Quilt & Feed Shop". I introduced myself and was surprised she wasn't very enthused to meet another one.

I also bought several assortments of Verna fabrics, so far made a wall hanging. The rest is waiting for me to get caught up, as if that will happen LOL.

Nice to meet you.

Hi all Verna's. It is not a name you see very often, but the sweet woman who did my moms hair for about 20 years was named Verna. She was a wonderful women!

In Mifflinburg, PA there is a Mennonite fabric store with great prices name Verna's Fabrics. The owner is named...you guessed it...Verna!

I am so happy to see all these pages of praise to our faithful hubbies! Those of us who are blessed with these darling men should give thanks!

Now this is a great idea! Maybe if I follow him around and really irritate him enough, he will beg me to go back to my quilting. LOL

I broke mine in from day one. "You want breakfast?" Let me show you where the kitchen is. "You want to eat lunch?" Do you not remember where the kitchen is? lol

No, seriously - Pat had issues with me knitting when we were first married and his argument was "you are paying attention to your knitting - not me." Actuall, I was knitting, watching TV, and carrying on a conversation while not letting dinner burn. So I stopped knitting and became the most attentive B**** you can imagine. After a few days he begged me to knit again.

Now he has his own hobby (Astronomy) but more times than none he will sit with me in the sewing room for company.

This I will seriously think about.

I try to plan days just for us to do things together but he still wants my attention constantly.

He is a good man and I am lucky to have him as he works hard around the house. He is retired and I work full-time so I can see why he wants my attention all the time when I am at home. But I have to have my time to myself too which is rare anymore. He always wins out and I spend 90% of my time away from work with him. Anytime I can go to my room and quilt is so wonderful to me. This is how I can find peace for my soul.

I'm just so thrilled to have that wonderful man, that I try not to sew much when I have him at home. I'm very blessed that he would understand, though, if I said I'd really like to get something done. I do sit with him while he watches the occasional football game, but I hand quilt all the while. Once I get going on sewing, I hate to stop, and I would probably forget what or who was most important.

So wonderful to hear from a man! LOL I am putting on my thinking cap.

Tell him to buy a boat and go fishing -- another daylong activity you will certainly enjoy.

Tell him to join a bowling league -- gone a lot of evenings and on Saturdays during the day.

Hand him one of the longest "honey-do" known to mankind and tell him you expect all of it to be done before Sunday -- I hate those lists LOL!

If these suggestions don't work, toss him the latest Dick's Sporting Goods flyer and tell him to pick a sport/hobby FAST!

Finally, tell him to stop interfering with the one great thing you do that makes you want to be around him -- quilting.

Not bad for a guy who will do anything for his wife. She is my angel, and an angel to hundreds and hundreds of prematurely born babies she has cared for these past 28 years (NICU nurse she is.)

You know, I have asked him to help me cut material. He said, "no way". Maybe he would iron for me.

My grandmother taught my grandfather how to cut out quilt pieces from templates after he retired. He did that while watching TV. My favorite quilt is one that he cut out and she pieced!

Gerbie,

This is a great idea too. I have already told him I need a television in my sewing room. He is going to build a shelf and start looking for one for me. I ask his opinion about colors alot and he seems to like that. He will brag on me when I show him something I have made.

Maybe a bookcase for my quilting books is next.

I can't give anyone my undivided attention all the time. Did that when my kids were little, now done!
Susan,

You are so right. I wish I could be more assertive when it comes to this. I try to quilt when he is at work too. He only works part-time now and I work full-time. I do love it when I can get some me time but that doesn't happen to often. I will have to work harder on being assertive.

Vanessa
Vanessa, perhaps you can get him to help with the quilting, choosing colors, patterns or helping you cut fabric. Who knows he might even get into quilting. Does he do any type of wood work? Let him know you need some quilt wall hangers, or peg boards or a cabinet or something that will help out. This may get him into a new hobby and allow you to enjoy yours. Just some thoughts. I would go crazy if my DH wanted all of my attention. He has always been supportive.

You know what? The more I read everyone's thread, the more I appreciate him. I have my faults too. He does work hard around the house, will cook supper for me, and cleans the house alot. Yep, I will keep him. Now, about that ironing. LOL :)
