Don't fear -- it's such a nifty machine, really easy to use. I have had novices use my 6500 w/o any problems -- even had a group of quilters watching with enby while one tried it out. Great fun -- get it out of the box and have a ball!

Does sound like you're hearing from your "dealer" and this "habit" certainly is our "drug of choice".

    Congrats and enjoy.

Maybe1day, the dealer where the machine was purchased should offer you a class to show you how to run it and make use of all the amazing features it has.
A machine with all those capabilities needs and wants to be used.

I am sure they would but the shop where my parents bought it is 3.5hours away from where I live so while they are willing I am not willing to drive all that distance :D
A dealer closer to home has offered to give me lessons on it, show me around it etc. which is great.

I know it is shameful  my friend and the ladies from my LQS all want to be adopted too
I am going to the LQS for a lesson on their demo Horizon this Wed and then I might not feel so intimidated about taking her out for a run.

Take it for a test run! It still sews a straight stitch just like any other machine. You can always learn the bells and whistles later. You won't regret it!

I'm with BethD!!! Take it for a spin - you won't be sorry!! It is an amazing machine - the more I use it, the more I realize what it can do. My dad always told me to buy a new car "loaded" because if I didn't, I would always be wishing I had this or that option. This Horizon is loaded and will do anything you want it to in the way of sewing and quilting. It does do decorative stitches, but not like a dedicated embroidery machine does. You are SO lucky to have received it as a gift!! Watch the DVD that comes with it - it gives you a really good overview of the features. Good luck and keep us posted!!
