Only major thing I can recall was cutting twice as many blocks as I needed but it didn't matter. I soon had to make another quilt.

Loved everyone of these replies but Deb Watkins and cmrenno made me laugh - but I am like Bellaboo - every quilt I make has more then one mistake in it. That is just who I am - a wanna be perfectionist -but oh so human.

Running out of fabric. 3 recent quilts, I've gotten to the end and found I didn't have enough fabric for the final borders. Now, that's been my own fault - on two of those quilts, I redesigned the borders/made it bigger at the last minute, so my original fabric quantities were off. And the third, I knew it was close, but decided to try anyway.

I'm sure I've had other big "oops", but I've carefully blanked them all from my mind. All except the first mystery quilt I made - from 5 different novelty fabrics. The top made me sea-sick to look at, and I finally pitched it as irrepairable last year.

this is one of the mistakes that I have made several times, even with them laid out before sewing... I just say my trade mark sure didn't plan to take it all out after quilting it. If I had seen it earlier then reworking it I would do.

I heard somewhere....early in my quilting career......that the quilters of the past, knowing that there has only been ONE Perfect Person, actually purposely put a mistake in their quilts. I don't do the mistakes on purpose, but when I have one, I chalk it up to the early practice.

Also, I inherited a Drunkards Path quilt top from my grandmother, and found where she had turned one block the wrong direction. I never knew whether it was done on purpose or not.

I can't describe all the mistakes I have made, but when I cut 6 1/2" blocks too small....6" blocks, I just make it work!.....or I recut. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff!

I made a rail fence quilt for my SIL and since she wanted all colors I decided to create a rainbow effect on the diagonal. I didn't realize until I started putting the rows together that there are more rows diagonally than horizontally or vertically. I had to take some of the blocks apart and add more fabrics to get the effect I wanted. It turned out beautiful and my SIL loves it. It was my 4th quilt and king size.
