    Hello

Over time I have bought some better quality flannel from quilt shop, when on sale, and the lighter weight flannel at JoAnn's (of course when on sale).

I have only made one rag quilt - which I loved, but decided Not to give it to DIL because of all the lint you get when you wash it.
Fine for me because I always clean out the dryer vent - she does not. So decided this was not a good type of quilt for her.

Now I don't know what to do with the flannel I still have.
Can you make a quilt with this fabric ?
And if so, is there a better type of block that should be used ?

Thank you for your help and suggestions.
    Karen

I just finished 12 flannel receiving blanket. I learned to do the ones with mitered self binding.

You can do any quilt pattern in flannel just as you do with other fabric. Create, create, create (smile).

I've mostly used flannel for baby items - bibs, burp cloths, changing pad, stuffed toys and for summer babies I just hemmed the edges of a single layer of flannel for a light wrap. Of course you can make really cute applique with contrasting coordinating patterns. I had some mayching solid, check and stripe that I did bunnies and puppies with 3-D floppy ears.

Good ideas, but I don't have babies anymore. youngest grand-daugher is 4 (so can't make the fun things like bibs, etc.).

You can also use it for the backing on quilts. I love snuggling under a flannel backed quilt.

    You can:
use it for the back of a lap quilt, the flannel will make it cling
mix it with denim patches or back a denim quilt
    make a primitive-style top
    use it for raw-edged applique
    line a garment for warmth
    stitch cozy pillowcases
use it like regular cotton goods in a quilt top
    layer for pot holders
    make needle books
check with local charities for layette/crib quilt needs
add inside cuffs/collar to a sweatshirt
construct penny rug type table topper
Google "flannel crafts" or "flannel quilt" for lots of inspiration.

make a regular quilt. I have used flannel with simple patterns - rain fence etc. Makes great cuddly quilts.

I am making a quilted table cloth and using flannel for both the "batting" and the backing. It gives a nice drape, isn't too thick and is kind to my table top.

Oh my gosh I LOVE flannel quilts! You can make lots of quilts with flannel, as long as the patches are simple (as Holice said), or large.

Bonnie Sullivan designs flannel fabrics and quilts, here are a few ideas. I've made the "Plaid About You" (the 9-patch pictured below) quilt 3 times, everybody LOVES that quilt. She has lots of pictures that might inspire you on her website here:

(ETA: obviously I like the quilts with dark backgrounds, but she has lighter-colored quilts too)
