Black and white with splashes of blocks of primary and brights! Very exciting!
Once went to a baby shower. More pink than a Mary Kay Convention....until THE BEST GIFT was opened....some wild, loud funky geometric mod dress! This was in '06 and I still remember it.

Why don't you make them both red, blue, yellow and green (with some white) but in different patterns? One Log Cabin and one strip-pieced Trip Around the World would be great---- or even better, use some of the new Dr Seuss and Eric Carle fabrics.

Speaking as a mom of twins and a grandmom of twins, you are on the right track to make the quilts different. Since you do not know the sex of the babies, I would avoid floral all together. There are so many cute stripes, polka-dots, tone on tones, or even Moda solids to work with. Has the mommy to-be registered online? That is usually the first place I go before making a baby quilt. See what the mommy's taste is and go from there. I've seen so many interesting trends: yellow with grey is really big right now. So is orange with baby blue, or aqua with red. If you can't figure out what the parents want, if you go with any of those 3 color combinations you'll have a winner.

I would stay away from the pastels. They will seem "babyish" when the kids are 4-5 yrs old. They would probably carry it (cherish it) longer if they were in bright colors. I just made one with teddybears on it in red, yellow and blue. Turned out cute.
