I'm making a quilt for my MIL. I love the fabrics, and when I lay them beside each other, I love them together. I guess it's a "Warm Wishes" pattern, so I cut and pieced my strips and cut my blocks, and started piecing together my blocks, I have two rows of blocks together...and I don't love it anymore. It's too late now to make my blocks smaller, but I keep on thinking they *should* be smaller...something isn't working and I don't love it anymore...:(

So when you fall out of love with your quilt...do you keep on truckin' and finish it anyway? I guess I don't have a whole lot of choice, because I just don't have time to start something new...I'm tempted to buy something for MIL instead of giving her this quilt for Christmas.

I would finish it, and then if I still didn't like it I would probably buy a gift. I am not much help either.

I've started several quilts I did not like at all but I finished the tops. After they were finished I stuck them in the closet and when I do pull them out months later I find I do like them a lot and wonder why I thought I didn't like it. Warm Wishes is a type of pattern that the real pattern will not show until the quilt top is done, especially if the blocks are large. You are seeing too much too close. Go ahead and finish, I bet you will be glad you did.

Can we see a picture of what you have? Someone may have a solution for you. I think there are a few here that are visual, myself included. :D Do you want the width of the strips smaller or the blocks themselves? the blocks themselves would be easy remedy , if it width it would just take some time ,but I think possible.

Just re-read your post, see you already have two rows sewn,So my vote is continue on, remember they look so different when you see the overall pattern and once it is quilted it will look different also.

I say finish it.. keep your creativity open.. Make changes as you go along.. Who knows this may be the best one ever..

Just remember that we all "love" differently. And since this is a gift for you MIL; she may love it even though you don't. Someone else also said, put it away for a while and then get it out and see what you feel. I have done that and wondered what my problem had been in the first place. I also agree we need to see a picture of it.

That's the beautiful thing about quilts, they sometimes have a mind of their own. We do everything right, and then they change their minds, like kids - a unique piece of art.

Kind of same thing happened to me with a OBW.Just glad I didn't cut up all that fabric & feel obligated to finish it.I have maybe 20 hexagons,but that's very few compared to the amt of fabric I have for it.
I find it very hard to work with unloved fabric....or colors that do nothing for me.

I'd like to try the WW quilt,so haven't any advice for you.Maybe just keep in mind, there's one gift done & bet she will love it.

I have a number of quilts I didn't like as I sewed them and when they were done I loved them. Keep sewing. It may turn out OK.
