I make a lot of table runners as well as placemats and love the Hobbs Fusible batting - firm but fairly flat and if you buy a queen-sized batt, you can get at least six runners from it. It feels a little stiff when first fused in place but softens as you quilt it, either by hand or by machine.

Me, too. It's a flat runner when you are done with it and it washes well, too.Originally Posted by Boston1954

I've done it both ways - with and without batting. Another possibility is to use flannel instead of batting. The interfacing is a good idea, too, it would give you a little permanent stiffness.

I posted this one first. Then I was notified that it had violated the posting rules and it was being pulled. So I tried posting in a different form and it was posted. I have no idea why they decided to post it after all.

Don't worry. I have messed up many times on the forum. Once I posted something and had lots of disagreement on the subject. Originally Posted by Learner747
